This is now truth and could not be otherwise.
It is Hogmanay, my dudes
I volunteered in a first grade classroom in Ithaca, Sagan's daughter Sasha was in the class. They did a careers week where parents came in and talked about their work & he came in with a slide show.
Have you done a column yet on phrases we use to avoid blaspheming or cursing? e.g. for cryin' in the sink? Shut the front door? I sense fertile territory here.

NY neighbors: consider taking a minute to encourage the NYPA to ramp up renewable energy in NYS. Comment period ends today. Thanks to @nycdsaecosoc.bsky.social for making this so easy!
Can I just chime in to remind any pregnant people reading to get a TDaP booster in the 3rd trimester to protect your baby from pertussis! (Also get your flu and covid boosters and ask about RSV)

I need to know the story behind this photo
Oh my god
Now would be a great time for us to get the NY Health Act passed. Let's get universal health care in NY www.nyhcampaign.org/aboutnyha
This #IndependenceDay, ACOGβs thoughts are with the millions who will lose Medicaid coverage due to H.R. 1. Independence is built upon autonomy, and not having health care is a massive obstacle to securing the health, access, and safety that autonomy requires.
I'm 60% Hooper, 40% Brody, but both of us really want to be Quint

If you are dissatisfied with Representative Joe Morelle's recent vote to offer official state support and cooperation with ICE and the current administration, siding with Republicans... https://old.reddit.com/r/Rochester/comments/1l8244t/if_you_are_dissatisfied_with_representative_joe/

Well, we took a lead into the 9th and were one strike away from winning. Then the visitors scored 7 runs, and then it started pouring.

Found the sparrow nest!
4 blue eggs in a nest surrounded by evergreenery
This is in one of the dwarf Alberta spruce that flanks our front door. There's a sparrow nest in the other one, but I haven't found it yet.
Paper plate award: "Hardest working APP Danielle, thanks for all you do for our patients at GOG!!" Full disclosure: I was the only APP working today, so by default I was the hardest working.
As I leave work on a Friday evening at 7:15, no lies detected.
Happy May 1st. The value of your labor belongs to you and the actions of the state are best understood as as a coordinated effort to distract you from this. The state fears an organized and unified proletariat like it fears death and rightly so. Power to the workers and power to the people
Geesh, i would hope to have more discipline than to use one you posted THIS YEAR, but it's a good one, I'm not sorry.
Measure the walls. Count the ribs. Notch the long days. Look up for blue sky through the spout. Make small fires with the broken hulls of fishing boats. Practice smoke signals. Call old friends, and listen for echoes of distant voices. Organize your calendar. Dream of the beach. Look each way for the dim glow of light. Work on your reports. Review each of your lifeβs ten million choices. Endure moments of self-loathing. Find the evidence of those before you. Destroy it. Try to be very quiet, and listen for the sound of gears and moving water. Listen for the sound of your heart. Be thankful that you are here, swallowed with all hope, where you can rest and wait. Be nostalgic. Think of all the things you did and could have done. Remember treading water in the center of the still night sea, your toes pointing again and again down, down into the black depths.
Things to do in th Belly of the Whale
Dan Albergotti
The heart of a bear is a cloud-shuttered mountain. The heart of a mountainβs a kiln. The white heart of a moth has nineteen white chambers. The heart of a swan is a swan. The heart of a wasp is a prick of plush. The heart of a skunk is a mink. The heart of an owl is part blood and part chalice. The fey mouse heart rides a dawdy dust-cart. The heart of a kestrel hides a house wren at nest. The heart of lark is a czar. The heart of a scorpion is swidden and spark. The heart of a shark is a gear. Listen and tell, thrums the grave heart of humans. Listen well love, for itβs pitch dark down here.

For starters, your soul will get bigger. Your love, more terrible and luminous. Soon you'll say tender things at parties after too much champagne. A sidewalk quince, wet with midnight, will stop you in your tracks. In time, you'll find the perfect metaphor for your child's face. All at once you'll see the world and want it again: clothes flapping on the line, lilacs strewn and seeding, the luck of worms. An artichoke with its heart torn hot and steaming from the throbbing crown will suddenly turn you on.
Why read poetry if it won't make you rich?
