“It’s called having standards!”
“It’s called having standards!”
Shoutout to Ms Thacker’s fifth grade Quest club
And in perfect pbta fashion, the rules collapse back to the adage “make the game you want to play.” And if other people want to play them too, rad.
Posts about a Firefly announcement don’t make me want a Firefly revival,
…they make me want a Tales From The Wild Blue Yonder show that starts with Lady Blackbird and spins off into time-shifted series about industrial age heists / vampire millionaires / jedis vs demons
Goddamn pelican weather again
Opening a PDF in Affinity *often* lets you do this. You might lose some fonts, and you might have to manually Invert filter on some images… but it might be as straightforward as deleting a black background rectangle and flipping the font to black.

My heart is full of gratitude and there are still 20 days left of the bundle
Sure yeah sometimes it’s a “you got your chocolate in my peanut butter!” situation.
I’m not precious about it, I just turn away when someone* says “I haven’t played X, but I’m hacking it before we try it. I hated the last game even tho I hacked it too.”👀
*(without lots of play / design experience)
Me watching my kid put ketchup on cereal:
“I’m not being a monster, I’m just asking you not to put ketchup on cereal because then you’re going to complain that cereal is icky. But it’s not going to make you sick so there’s only so much energy I’m going to invest in it.”
💡 Play Microscope until you add some real juicy bits, then Pendragon those.
Alright, it’s official—I’m blaming the D20 Glut on Ron Edwards’ Sorcerer
Oh the huge manatee!

Tones: Noir and Pulp?
I wrote a dire Life And Death intro paragraph for #SwordsWithoutMaster but the characters decided they were inspired by a detective and a malinois dog… so we skewed into Film Noir.
So now we have an inspector-reincarnated-as-cat and dog duo to explore the world with. 🤷♂️ I’m excited!
I’d rather have an intentional 2 hours of focused play with some time before and after to chat ( “Bookend it with the bullshit” 😅) so like 3 hours total - than have people falling asleep.
They could have just played Rookvale
The Cube Rule of ~~sandwiches~~ Sports
I snapped right past “that seems wrong” to “I’m curious…” really quickly! It’s got a La Vey “If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy” vibe to it too, so there was something in the 60s zeitgeist.
Wait … wait …
Where the hell does that retribution line come from?
“Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law” - Crowley, ~1904
The rede was 1960’s-70’s.
Depending on what crowd, if they’re “Western Esoteric, Assorted” it’s correct enough with the quote. If they’re Wiccan, yep, it’s missing the pacifist line.
I had to ask for pun reasons
…Is *this* one a bit?
But consider supporting the No ICE In Minnesota bundle instead when that collection goes live, groups there need it more than I need a coffee.
This zine and my old favorite game Adventurer & Troll are contributed in there as support. #fuckIce

12 years after my first reading of #SwordsWithoutMaster, and 6 since I last played, I finally _ran_ it. The players rocked it and I had so much fun.
I’m even more excited for the redux now. #ttrpg #rpg
(Also props to the Open Hearth Gaming people who’ve kept the Character Keeper tradition alive!)
