I suppose similarly the complete death of the fiscal hawk faction has resulted in the brakes flying completely off the wheel whereas this would be called ridiculous before by anyone who cared about spending. Now all of this just gets a free pass because it polls well with voters.
Increasingly of the opinion "no tax on tips/overtime" has ruined everything. Now we're increasingly seeing populist Dems support cutting taxes on random things that large subsets of voters have to pay in the name of it being popular.
Reminds me of the freak out over footage of Ukrainians living normal lives/doing normal people things in western Ukraine circa 2023. People just have a very ""romanticized"" view of war where everything must be leveled and everyone is fighting in the trenches.
