Psychic Vision: Janganrei (1988) is one of the earliest, if not the first found footage horror films. It grew to be a cult film in Japan, but is widely unheard of outside Japan. Having the first instance of "Cursed Tape" trope, the film was cited as influential by Hideo Nakata and Kyoshi Kurosawa.
This is very, very good. Proto Noroi, early found footage/horror mockumentary and essential V-Cinema.
