⚡️ Our Senior Legal Advisor @fluturakusari.bsky.social is in Valletta today, observing the start of the trial against two individuals alleged to have supplied the killers of Daphne Caruana Galizia with bombs. They were charged in early 2021, and the trial is beginning now — four years later.

Investigative media outlet Danwatch is targeted with abusive legal letters bearing the hallmarks of #SLAPPs after a joint investigation with the Financial Times into Ingosstrakh, a Russian insurance company, and its role in insuring oil vessels suspected of helping Russia evade Western sanctions.

For years, we fought alongside Daphne's family for justice, hoping that one day the mastermind behind her murder would be convicted. I never believed Malta would delay so long to deliver justice for one of the most horrific killings of a journalist within the EU. It’s shameful.😢

First things first in #Bratislava
Visiting the memorial for Jan Kuciak and Martina Kusnirova, who were assassinated in 2018. At the time of their murder, they were planning their wedding. Both were 27 years old. Their families continue to fight for justice.
The mission will be led by the International Press Institute (IPI) and joined by ARTICLE 19 Europe, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and the European Center for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF). #MFRR
We will continue to pay special attention to the case of Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová, as their families and society continue to fight for justice ⚖️💔.
While in Bratislava, we will hold a press conference, issue a statement, and later produce a report. 📢✍️
