Charmingly irregular. People say I'm funny, but usually I just chat nonsense & hope for the best. I write & edit gaming videos & retrospectives for @RetroHutch.com. I like cats. https://youtube.com/@themanspyder
why are bees doing brutalism
Watching the new Louis Theroux doc on "the manosphere" and it is very striking how much of these people's content imagery and social image is lifted directly from GTA V.
I'm not the first to notice it but it's wild how unwilling the games industry is to reckon with negative influences it can have.
Kid 1: *lies down, face directly in path of slide*
Me: Don't lie there, you'll get--
Kid 2: *slides down slide, kicks Kid 1 in the face*
Me: Are you OK??
Kid 1: I'm OK. *lies down with face in path of slide again*
Me: Stop trying to get kicked in the face, you *under my breath* weird child
Good point actually.
Since today's generation often watch Netflix etc on their phones, it is therefore reasonable to assume their audio mastering for the streams are again aimed at the lowest common denominator, a tinny phone speaker that lacks much dynamic range. Watching via TV likely uses the same audio files.
Welcome to the world of the Loudness War. A commonly known thing among music collectors is that the dynamic range of audio mastering has over the years been crushed & boosted so everything sounds good on cheaper equipment & boomboxes. Of course this means you lose most nuance & depth.

The fact that these things aren't Opt-In and just stealthily applied in updates just smells like a Trojan horse. Sweaty, intrusive and not full of nice things.
I still think that the absolute tipping point for me on the whole 'shove AI into everything' debate was when I opened Notepad -- NOTEPAD! The most basic text editor imaginable! -- and Copilot was somehow auto enabled out of nowhere. Immediately switched that crap off.
omg thank god I have so many problems⦠using consoles???!!!
there is simply⦠not enough AI in my services???!!!
HORSES won the IGF Nuovo Award. Weβre profoundly grateful. To us, this recognition also speaks to a broader idea: that no gatekeeper should decide which games deserve to exist or what counts as art. Thank you to everyone who supported HORSES and helped carry it this far. PS: What a wonderful team!
This was not Dennis Durkin, it was Blizzard CFO/COO Armin Zerza.
Zerza, perhaps the most controversial figure in Blizzardβs history, is extensively covered in Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment. As is the story of how Overwatch League impeded Overwatch 2βs development.
no one ever appreciates my vision
A game that causes a Squeak of Rage definitely has problems. Maybe that could be a new rating system? Higher & longer the squeak, the worse your experience lol π
I tried Highguard before it disappeared, and - spoilers - didnβt have a *great* time with itβ¦
Text reads "Highguard is dead, here's why", next to an image of Scarlet from Highguard shedding a tear in front of a gravestone with the game's name on it.
Highguard? More Like Bye-guard. Another live service hero shooter has come and gone. But why did this one not survive?
Ellen tried the game out before it was shut down, to find out why... Watch here: youtu.be/wcy6QR8UQNM
He is a national treasure & a legend.
The moon is open for breathing, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said. "The only thing prohibiting breathing on the moon right now is the complete lack of oxygen or environment in which to breathe," he said. "It's open for breathing, should a breathable atmosphere emerge."
@TheChiefNerd SAM ALTMAN: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter."
i donβt know how this is supposed to work in terms of intelligence but whatever these guys do is taking stuff that is not theirs to take and then sell it for the highest possible price
electricity water clean air knowledge
you name it
they should be treated like the common thieves they are

The Strait of Hormuz is open for transit
my glass coffin company βremains to be seenβ is not doing as well as i thought it would.
Joan of Arc II: Lost in New York
I prefer the sequel, Sleepers In Seattle.
This is exactly WHY you're only young once. No chance to try it a second time with all this promiscuous behaviour & murder demons hanging about. Don't check the basement, enjoy multiple youths (but not in an Epstein way).
Friday the 13th. Once again a great day to go see what that noise in the basement is. Have that care free sex. Assume the person in the mask is a friend messing around. Hell itβs only twenty years tonight since the strange murders itβd be fun to check out the abandoned house. Youβre only young once.
