a photo taken through a glass door into a store. there are several stickers on the glass, including a big round one depicting a dachshund’s silhouette behind a big international “No” sign, a red circle with a diagonal cross through it. just inside the store, a little black dachshund is sitting perfectly still on the tile, oriented exactly the same way as the dog on the sticker and directly underneath it. he’s a rebel, and you can’t tell him what to do.
This is Aldo. He is a good boy. But also... a bad boy. 13/10
Just been in a meeting where someone said causally that they research space law.
No follow up. Just ‘space law’ and moved on.
I made the mistake of reading the Facebook posts from that composer who reckons he’s had to quit music because of DEI. It’s exhausting!!
It’s also something I’ve had men say to my face when I’ve had opportunities that they felt were owed to them.
See also ‘Is that band still going? I didn’t know they were still a thing?’
Those are some comprehensive Beethoven facts! A guy who wrote excellent symphonies and could be a bit of an arse.

Incredibly proud to work at the University of Westminster where Mykaell Riley and the BMRU are driving change! Great article in the Guardian about the petition to get a permanent exhibition of Black British music and to get Black British music on the curriculum. www.theguardian.com/culture/2024...
My book is available for preorder from today!! Each chapter in ‘Interactive Music: Beyond Pressing Play’ digs into a debate in interactive sound and music looking at approaches across multiple disciplines. www.routledge.com/Interactive-...
As part of our Organ+ Festival on Friday we have a concert of new works at Fyvie Hall. A really exciting programme featuring work from students and lecturers, across genres, blending the organ into contemporary popular music (I'm premiering a new installation).

Profit isn’t it, but it does prove value to people motivated by profit. More valuable is the role to communities, challenging discussions, interrogating difficult parts of society and bringing joy to the everyday. But that’s harder to pin down.
Name tag on lanyard reads ‘Lucy Harrison, University of Westminster, College of Design, Creative and Digital Industries. Artsplural’
Had the privilege to attend the ELIA biennial in Milan last week. It’s really got me thinking about how do we prove the value of the arts to an outside audience.
I don’t love the capitalist profit model, but in tough times we need to show our place in society in a tangible and accessible way.

When people explain my research to me
This gatekeeping is why I don’t write for traditional concert settings. I can’t stand the idea that people will be policing behaviour for my music.
Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you’re working on & 2) an idea/theory you aren't working on but keep thinking about.
1) immersive theatre production in an old concrete testing facility (also have a book launching)
2) making commutes sound better

The phantom of the opera playing the organ
I’ve just given a talk about vampires and the organ at Regent Street Cinema and my favourite thing from my research is… the picture we all think of as a vampire at the organ (or at least I did) is actually the phantom of the opera!!
A photograph of the snack table at my workplace. Many Tunnock's caramel wafers have been arranged into something resembling Stonehenge.
Standing behind my coworker chanting "henge" whenever he brings in wafers has paid off, he now does it automatically.

There are still some (not many) tickets left to our screening of Nosferatu with live organ on the 25th of October. Vampires on a boat with the added bonus of me trying to discuss Count Duckula in my intro (there is a reason!) www.regentstreetcinema.com/movie/nosfer...

I’m reviewing the proofs of my book today. Suddenly seems very real to have it typeset. It’s about aesthetics of interactive sound and music (game sound, installations, immersive theatre). Going to bring some interactive sound chats on here soon! (But first, coffee!) Any questions let me know!
I'm very excited to be providing the opening talk to this screening of Nosferatu with live organ at the Regent Street Cinema on the 27th of October. I'll be discussing the link between the organ and horror. Also vampires on a boat! #musicology #halloween www.regentstreetcinema.com/movie/nosfer...
I’ll try to get some useful content out there!
100% there’s a combination of skills, instincts and flair!

I’ve been lurking on here for months and haven’t introduced myself. Hello! I’m a composer, sound designer and researcher specialising in interactive sound and music.
I make the interactive fun (games, musical blanket forts etc.) and then I write about the aesthetics of it. #ludomusicology
