Two Rode Together (film): some of Ford’s most searing indictments of American civilization constantly uprooting & ruining the lives of everyone within, & maybe one of his prettiest color films, but delivered in an especially dry, meandering & uneventful tale. More intriguing than enticing. 7/10?

95. Crayon Shin-chan - Invoke a Storm! The Singing Buttocks Bomb (anime): some of Muto’s best direction (with Yuasa key animation) paired with a pretty lousy script. Improves, but starts real bad with an onslaught of unfunny ass jokes & intrusive (but well made) music numbers with a thin plot. 5/10

94. Crayon Shin-chan - The Legend Called Dance! Amigo! (anime): Muto still delivers the good despite not writing for this one. Premise is more absurd than grand still, but quite charming, nails finding good horror image motifs and great comic timing while juggling tones well. Quite fun! 7/10

To clarify: the character designs are Yaz’s clean, timeless look that works ofc, and the animation is pretty smooth, but it otherwise feels so generic and lacking in personality with Yaz’s direction. Really typical sword & sandal mythology shit without real awe.

93. Arion (anime): Yaz’s worst by a fair margin. Just completely disjointed Things Happening where gods show up to drop like flies & character motivations & convictions always seem in flux with nary a great image or convincing beat to sell you on any of it. Not terrible, but nothing matters. 4/10
