The key here is having a very solid, reliable used car, thus the Honda/Toyota. And even those brands have fallen in quality. I think my early 2010s Toyota will make it 300,000 miles. New ones? 🤷
I have owned other cars, Jeeps for example, that definitely would cost more with repairs alone.
I am an analyst by nature, so I use spreadsheets and models. The car decision is about the NPV of the cash flows involved, and for me a used Toyota/Honda sedan is by far the least expensive.
Even if it's purely about environment, the money is a good indicator of the resources being expended.
Visible is much cheaper and works fine where I live.

Iran should state publicly that it will consider ending this war, which it can do any time it wants, when regime change has been achieved in Israel and the U.S. They should call on Israeli and U.S. citizens to take this into their own hands to end this war.

The EV owner pays $680/mth for 7 yrs after a $5K down payment, and the old car cost $5K cash.
All else equal, you fill up 17 times/mth with the gas car before the EV begins to pay off.
