For Mahmoud Khalll, this past year has been marked by profound hardship-and by profound courage. A year ago, Mahmoud was walking home through our city after sharing an iftar with his wife Noor when he was detained by federal agents, flown to Louisiana, and then held in an ICE facility for months. In that time, he was forced to miss the birth of his first child. All of this for exercising his First Amendment rights in protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine. And yet, even in the face of that cruelty, there has also been beauty. New Yorkers raising their voices in solidarity. A city refusing to look away. Mahmoud won his freedom, and a father was finally reunited with his child. Last night, as we marked the one year anniversary of his detention, Rama and I were honored to welcome Mahmoud, Noor, and their son Deen to Gracie Mansion to break our fast together. Mahmoud is a New Yorker, and he belongs in New York City.

It’s a repetitive thought I keep having watching TNG, but I feel like today’s worst Trek fans would take a reactionary view towards the show if it aired now. A good s3 ep where Picard desperately tries to prevent a logical atheist society from creating a religion would be seen as controversial now
So does this mean Yoshi will say more words than “Yoshi,” or is this an “I am Groot” situation for Glover? Most importantly, the filmmakers still haven’t told us if Birdo talks and/or has a voice actor. These are important questions

Turns my stomach to see cities with millennia of history flattened by United States and Israel, two of the fakest countries in the world.
Docter and many other old timers at Pixar wanted to deal with heavier, more serious issues like grief and emotional regulation, with tons of “therapy speak” in Inside Out, Wall-E, and Up. But when it’s queer themes it’s all “Back off loser, I’m not your therapist. I’m just here to sell popcorn!”
Rolled credits on Resident Evil Requiem, two big thumbs up. While I enjoyed 7 & 8 to a degree, the ratio of horror to action in Requiem is much more my vibe. The mix of old and new in this is one of the better approaches to a legacy series too. Makes me want to start up the RE4 remake I skipped

Lastly, in the first ep of season 3, I can’t help but project Gene Roddenberry’s TNG reputation onto Ken Jenkins as Paul Stubbs. He’s a pushy jerk who sees Wesley as a younger version of himself, and Stubbs keeps fucking up their mission with his smug attitude towards what he thinks they should do
Data in The Ensigns of Command
Look, right now hopeful, competency porn that tries to curtail ignorance is welcome escapism. I really enjoyed The Ensigns of Command with Data challenged to find a way to deescalate a situation outside of his comfort zone in a way that feels earned, and Picard does the same on his end
