If I had a body shape that would let me easily carry people around, you bet your ass my friends would be getting free rides nonstop. I think fantasy creatures who find being ridden degrading are just dicks.
The egregious pet death, child death, extended scatological humor and whatever else was coming, I could begrudgingly accept because it's splatterpunk. It reminded me of my more uncomfortable nightmares, and that COULD make for some great horror.
But after a while, it just got mean.
I think the issue was, at a certain point, it stops being a horrible thing threatening our bittersweet world, and just becomes a horrible thing in a horrible world.
That was what the final straw was. I can accept the raptor's evil. The main cast though? I no longer care what happens to them.
