It’s an apartment; they ripped out the lovely lawn many years ago and replaced it with dirt, rocks, and a small number of drought tolerant plants. 🥺

I’m hoping for the tea. Also as a hypothetical wasp repellent, but I gather the evidence for this is weak.

Two plants hanging from a beam on my balcony. The upper one is mint, not yet sprouting. The lower one is the cucumber plant that got too big for the kitchen.

Mint and cucumber now hanging together. Not enough light for the mint in its previous location.

No, unfortunately not. I’d probably just look for something online. Amazon seems to have a bunch of options. That’s how I bought my Ukrainian overlays.

I have Ukrainian overlays on a couple of my keyboards; they work ok and aren’t that hard to apply. Tweezers and strong reading glasses were a big help though!

Big print/high contrast stickers should be similar I think.

A rosemary seedling with two large cotyledons and two tiny needles beginning to grow.

Neat! I had no idea.

Here's one of my rosemary seedlings, which has cotyledons, and, FINALLY, two tiny needles starting up. (Though I gather that needles are just sort of Leaves Being Weird.)

Also, I ordered your book. It looks fantastic!

So much to learn.

Even leafless plants have cotyledons (leaves & cotyledons are not homologous). This seedling of a cactus, Homalocephala texensis (📷: Wolfgang Brüsehaber CCBYNCSA2), shows the two, horn-like cotyledons. Spines (modified true leaves) are just starting to emerge. #Cactaceae #cotyledon #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

This is how I’m informed that I’m now allowed to get some work done.

Did they replace the poles with stronger poles?

Mine's been gone 25 years now. 25 years ago, I couldn't see how I could survive without her. Thank goodness the pain fades over time. 😢

It was a few years ago but I always keep my tetanus up to date. My body enjoys falling down from time to time. I don’t, really. 😐

Fortunately it went in at a very shallow angle, so I was able to remove it without fuss, bleeding, trip to the emergency room, etc. It was more just stuck under my skin, and not as stabby as I had feared.

Well, I impaled myself on a pet feeding shelf a few years ago. Sitting on top of a pile of junk I had just fallen on, and seeing a shelf stuck in my leg, gave ample opportunity to reconsider safety practices.

It’s 3mm fiberglass rods, plus a 3D printed cap to hold the whole thing together and keep me from poking my eye out.

G6 was the cucumber that is now outside. Tonight I’m designing little trellises for clingy/climbey stuff.

I probably do… somewhere! Mostly I just follow new ones from time to time.

Cucumber got too big for the kitchen (more or less expected), so now it lives outside in this hanging pot. Other hanging pot is seeded with mint, which was the whole point of the gardening exercise way back when.

The USB/pump configuration would be handy for me as my balcony has no electricity or running water. But I could buy a bucket!

Possibly apropos of nothing, but I recently learned that a USB powered chicken coop mister is surprisingly affordable!

I have not yet acted on this knowledge. But my balcony isn’t really any bigger than a chicken coop. 🤔
