Welsh author & mystic Arthur Machen was born in Caerleon today in 1863.
A pioneer of β€˜weird fiction’, his strange wanderings –from Arcadian Wales to spectral London– gave rise to uncanny tales of occult horror & hidden realms, influencing everyone from HP Lovecraft to Stephen King.

I’ll be on BBC Radio Wales this evening talking about my lovely new book QUIRKY CARDIFF with Wales’s finest, Roy Noble.
The show starts at 5.30pm – right after Wales beat France in the rugby (that would be quirky!) – and I’ll pop up during it.
You can also catch up on BBC iPlayer.

Happy February 1st & blessed Imbolc!
Today marks the halfway point between the winter solstice & spring equinox. Folklore tells us it's also time for a little weather divination, when serpents and badgers might emerge from their dens - much like Groundhog Day.
