inform people of the dangers of separation or being tricked into separation.
UCP MLAs won't do their jobs, so business leaders must stick their necks out the way Forever Canada volunteers have done. We can't let the country die of embarrassment.

"Some people may be waiting, and fair enough, to see what the signature count is at the deadline for the signatures to be gathered.โ
I have to agree w/ Kenney. The wait & see approach is wrong. If more people spoke up a yr ago, we might not be in this situation. If they spoke up now, it would
And because the UK is a country while Alberta is not.
The activity itself was useful. Before the signatures, the story was that *most* Albertans want to separate. It demonstrated that patriotism crossed parties & all other identity descriptors. It was a way for Albertans who believed in Canada to find each other.
Poem - The Promise by Marie Howe
Sometimes the most important things we know about each other are never spoken, the things we need to say remain unsaid when we still have the opportunity to say them
Then opportunity passes and doesn't return.
There is a lesson in this poem by Marie Howe

So pushing people's buttons to get them to join a war he & T started? It's like his comments of "going it alone" whenever his policies are criticized by foreign leaders.
He might be more articulate than T, but he's just as much a delusional liar.
Before 2020, the UK conducted an exercise based on a flu outbreak whose recommendations also weren't followed.
It was such bad luck that the two nations that could've led the world in 2020 were led by such nincompoops.
Oh...
Is this how Europe gets pulled into the madness?
Hopefully we've learned enough from Trump's 1st term & the Meng Wenzhou saga. The US left Canada with all the negative consequences on that one.
This war they've started is a lot more careless, with more severe consequences.
Hopefully there's limits for when the NATO member is the aggressor.
I agree. As if there aren't enough real problems. Canada's friends include Europe - who are also being threatened, but aren't part of the war. It's a feeding frenzy with the accusations. So without the drama from far-right disinfo in this site, others are trying to fill the void? It's irresponsible.
The UK, and Europe were also threatened. Plus, there are Canadians in N. Africa, Gulf States - countries not directly involved in the war, but might suffer indiscriminate bombings.
So his statement actually makes sense.
But I think on this site - because right wing accounts are mostly blocked - there might be manipulation from accounts posing as left of center. If destabilization is the goal, bad actors will be agnostic & will use the most accessible ideology.
I can't answer the why. But I share your frustration. Maybe you're right, people don't see the danger. Some might be absolutists. Some might believe that Carney is inadequate so they view everything through that lens. Maybe some even think it's a public service.
The gov ends up in a tailspin because social media think they should pressure gov at every chance +
it's impossible satisfy everyone, especially people who's identity is disliking the party in power.
Hopefully the Fed comms have learned their lessons. They should take their time.
So this time the Feds ended up issuing a statement before having all the facts (they were v. busy in meetings w/ India at the time).
Unfortunately, the same mistakes from the Trudeau era is on repeat. People get whipped up by initial comments, later corrections don't get much attention.
Besides what's mentioned in the article. I suspect part of the issue is the complaints that they're slow to issue statements. E.g. During the Greenland crisis, even prominent journos quickly criticized Carney not signing a joint statement by stronger countries before investigating circumstances.
I mean... Trump's success is based on weaponizing fear, grievance, & hatred. You'd think his people would know to avoid giving their adversaries a similar cause. Apparently not.
Feels like they're pushing all the buttons with no regard for what those buttons are for.
Definitely.
An oddly written article on planned passport fee increase:
For example, the price of a five-year passport applied for in Canada would rise to $123.24..."
www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
But current 5-yr fee, applied w/in Canada is $120. So... a $3.24 increase?

The discussions between characters remind me of the "Pro and Contra" chapter in "Brothers Karamazov" - heavy, important topics centered on people & society.
The imagery is so vivid, I probably can't read this during wildfire smoke season.
But boy! The male protagonist is v. difficult to like. 12/
After dinner at Marlborough Mills with the Thorntons & other mill owners, Mr. Thornton to Margaret:
"I could see you were on our side in our discussion at dinner, were you not, Miss Hale?"
This feels like someone falling for a far-right podcaster - run Margaret! 11/
Margaret tells Higgins there are no strikes in the south.
Ok... But there's the Tolpuddle Martyrs from Dorset (1834). 10/
family tragedy, they lost everything, but the Thorntons also relied on "...some fragment of property secured to his mother." Yes, it's a mark of good character that he paid off his father's debts. But he was also given an opportunity by one of the former debtors. 9/
by owners not wanting to spend ยฃ on proper ventilation.
3) Thornton & pulling yourself by your bootstraps - he started with 15 shillings/week as a shop worker vs. mill workers at 16 shillings/week.
But earlier, we learned that the Thornton's weren't always poor, he was being educated. After the 8/
Contrasts:
1) Thornton's claims that his early life experiences had nothing to do w/ his current success vs. Bessy's fascination w/ Margaret's clothes bec she's never felt such soft fabric before.
2) Thornton on the uselessness & obstructiveness of gov regulation vs. Bessy's Byssinosis caused 7/
How did Bessy Higgins get sick? It was a choice between poor ventilation vs. potential sexual harassment. 6/
Thornton sounding like a Silicon Valley bro: motherwit; what does the government know of our business, must deregulate; despotism is good, actually. 5/
Mr. Thornton having tea with the Hales: The discussion on learning the classics/formal education vs. technology & economics reminds of ON Premier Ford's "basket weaving" courses comment; & the UK'S poorly received advert abt ballerina Fatima working in cyber. 4/
I don't understand, why are they cowards?
Besides the $$$
If the implication of the chain of events was: Trump admin saying - drop Susan Rice (former Obama official) or we'll make it impossible for you to merge with WB; so Netflix dropped the bid - isn't that the right thing for Netflix to do?
I'm admiring how the UK is handling this.
