I’m ringing the alarm bells that we are already in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. It is not down the street. It is not down the corner. It is here now. We have all three elements of a strongman state: A rubber-stamp Congress acceding to the president’s desires. A Supreme Court enhancing the president’s powers. And a power-hungry president behaving like a king, disregarding the laws and the checks and balances of our Constitution. Americans do not want a king. The best strategies we have to prevent the entrenchment of an authoritarian state are rigorous peaceful protests now and a massive rebuke in the next election. Let’s save our republic!
