I can’t decide if fellow academics don’t know or don’t care, but I would love a simple calculator popup that says “this search will burn X amnt CO2 and use Y gallons of water”

Bots going crazy on Bluesky but this might be my favorite one yet
Noodling away on the piano with Bach's Jesus bleibet meine Freunde and a glass of chardonnay. The boy is quietly humming it in the background while watching YouTube videos. That counts as a damn fine Friday evening :)
I've made attempts to publish on this very issue and been roundly rejected each time. Probably says more about me than the topic :) Time to revive interest Ian?
I've built myself a website, which includes a list of journals for animal rights philosophers to submit to (organised by publisher), a couple of syllabi, my essay writing guide for political philosophy students, & articles that philosophers say have changed their minds: stevecooke.org
Good.
Grovelling apologies from Yoon and some generals will be nice, but only a start.
When we said "defend democracy" we usually didn't mean with tanks...
Word of the day is a favourite, from old Scots.
To ‘tartle’ is to hesitate while introducing someone because you have completely forgotten their name.
Especially in large #urban areas, public spaces can be highly threatening to #children. Why are children excluded from equal use of public spaces? Do children have a right to responsive and inclusive urban design?

I was invited to speak about the upcoming Trump era and share some lessons and optimism. I declined politely. After more than 25 years of researching the far right, I have no more (new) lessons and optimism to share.
😅 Like my guy who was really shocked about his thesis grade because all his interviewees and two friends with Masters degrees (in business) really liked it
And that numerous young Romanians in Maastricht voted remotely for him because they're sick of the ineffectual infighty current government.
Democracy is the baby being thrown out with the government bath-water 2/2
Starting an occasional thread called #thingsIlearnedfrommystudents. Today, Romanian presidential wannabe and fascist-adjacent Georgescu "parted ways with" (Wikipedia) / "was thrown out of" (angry Romanian student) the far right AUR for being too far nutty even for them...1/2
I’ve made a starter pack for feminist philosophy adjacent people — please tell me who else to include! #philsky go.bsky.app/Fy5Z6kk
Newskies!
Quiet Posters is such an incredible feed
It shows you posts from people you follow and who post infrequently
Can’t recommend it enough
Been away from social media for 10 months, just popped by, and my word all of a sudden there's a lot of us. Hello everyone! Looking forward to re-engaging.
Hey Denise, getting a 404 error when I click that link.
My review of The Tangle of Science is out. Have a look at this book for how to think of reliability of science without appealing to the usual suspects of confirmation, scientific method, rigour etc. I found it genuinely important and refreshing if incomplete. #philsci #philsky #metasci #scipol
Omg this thread. See? There is intelligent life on Earth, just not so much on X

Perfect
Now this is interesting - in an era of more remote, distant collaboration, it's face-to-face that's more likely to produce the breakthroughs. Even more likely in arts and socsci, I wonder?
He's now turning attention to legal work for the BE Council of State, but I hope to tempt him to publish more - deserves to be widely read. Keep an eye out!
He presents a hard-nosed response to populist calls for direct democracy, tackling it from multiple angles. Best synthesis of systems theory I've seen so far, bar none - wish I'd written it!
Had the enormous pleasure of joining the panel for a PhD defence by Ronald van Crombrugge at Leuven Law last night. Possibly the best PhD I've read. Deliberative systems theory, administrative and constitutional law, and the role of referendums in democracy.
Ok, it’s worse than I thought. One or two more seats dotted around after the final count and the racist may have enough liberal collaborators to make it work. If Omtzigt decides to play then it’s dark days ahead for the Netherlands.
Potential big trouble for NL universities…
The GreenLeft/Labour alliance did better than expected, and has more friends. It’s going to be a veeeeery interesting few months of negotiations. But whichever way you look at it, Dutch politics is now way more polarised 2/2
It’s Dutch election night and the horrified headlines will soon be rolling in: Wilders and his band of nutters (PVV) the biggest party. But biggest does not equal government. You have to make friends, and PVV doesn’t have enough 1/2
