BTW, there are no practice runs in freeride skiing. Riders scope out their line from the bottom, then hike up to the top (carrying their gear) on competition day and try to execute it.
From the skier's perspective. Freeride skiing is a judged sport. To put it simply, did you come down the easy way or the hard way? The more difficult the line, the higher your score, but you have to keep it moving (fluidity). Technique and creativity are the other criteria.

Once you get into Freeride skiing, Olympic skiing looks pretty tame. Last week in Andorra Kiwi Ben Richards won his third straight freeride competition. He is an unbelievable 3 for 3 this season.

Last week I was talking to a guy on a chairlift who had just graduated from college. I asked him about his program, and he told me that he cheated “a lot.” We are so hooped when students casually admit to strangers that they cheated their way through a degree. Cheating is now totally normalized 😭
