It’s also important to note that we’ve not seen a yellow flag infringement *like this* during a race session in a few seasons, it’s most commonly seen in qualifying or a practice session. Where precedent is a 3 place drop. We really only see VSC /SC infringements which are 5s time penalties in race.

From my understanding of regulations this is the standard/min penalty possible for a yellow flag infringement during a race session. Driving full throttle DRS open in a yellow flag zone is a safety concern.

Regulations engineers, sporting directors, team members know these regulations so well. Which very easily could have set off alarms when observed & thus ended with FIA opening the door for this use of satellite skids with the previous TD, it being not as intended, contradictory, and they closed it.

Here’s where I feel Red Bull comes into this. With all the competitive intelligence the teams do and that happens, RB likely figured this out. As teams will do with regulations they will observe something an opponent is doing and ask for clarification on what they saw as being in regulation or not.

If allegations of some teams using the previously TD-ed supportive skids as a means to reduce wear at the inspection holes of the plank are true, however that may be, it’s not legal unless the TD explicitly states superseding rulings on 3.15.8. So any team running it ✨in theory✨ could be illegal.

In tech regs 3.15.8 it states any design intended to protect the inspection holes of the plank is✨technically not legal.✨Reading between the lines in the reports there is a possibility for the additional skid supports to work that way, thus they are not legal.

Have we considered this new TD to correct some not so “in the spirit of the regulations” stuff on the skids to simply be Red Bull pointing out the FIA contradicted themselves by issuing the satellite skid TD? Let me explain (a thread)
