During WWII, Jewish residents of Lublin, Poland were rounded and forced to sing and dance for the Nazi soldiers.
Reportedly, one Jewish captive sang “lomir zikh iberbetn, ovinu shabashomayim” (let’s make up, our father in heaven) Imploring god to intervene.
But others did not echo this…
I love everything about this and want to add in some missing historical attribution for the phrase “we will outlive them”.
It comes from the Yiddish, “mir veln zey iberlebn” (same translation) which was sung during a particular instance of Ashkenazi Jews resisting SS officers in Lublin, Poland…
