Yeah, and that’s the sucky thing. Every day there is a new potential catalyst, but then the next day there’s another one, and then another one. It feels impossible to know what to focus on 😢

We can all think about this as individuals but it needs to be massive to have a real impact (sort of like when folks pushed back with Jimmy Kimmel).

One of the challenges is that most of us don’t have a reach. I get so frustrated by that (even though I know the things I—you—do are important)

The only thing these people care about is their own wealth, so I predict that any form of resistance needs to be aimed at economics.

It would definitely depend on the individual, of course. The podcast I listened to talked about Apple. Imagine if even 25% of people planning on buying a new phone/tablet/laptop postponed it for a month (if not indefinitely, though that’s not realistic). That would have an impact.

But if a significant percentage of people (I don’t have the stats on that! I heard a podcast a few weeks ago talking about this that estimated numbers) eliminated everything but the essentials for a month, those billionaire buddies of his wouldn’t be too happy.

Not a strike. I agree that a lot of folks don’t have that kind of security. But more cutting everything but essential spending. Those of us with more financial security would need to help others out, and it would mean folks would need to strategize spending for a few weeks as best as they can.

I don’t like it, but I still think some sort of organized resistance is the only thing that will change things. That could be ongoing massive protests but I think an economic blackout that lasts several weeks would be the best thing. (That requires a lot of organizing and planning.)

I am fully behind that. It is baffling how many Dems are acting like this is all just normal and will return to the way it was when they take back Congress. But more voters need to be engaging in that action.

Though I’m way too pessimistic that the current Dems will step up and do this.

Yes they did. But that doesn’t negate the massive impact he had and the changes he and thousands of other activists created.

Do you think the solution is to do nothing and hope those with money and power just voluntarily do the right thing? What do you think the end result of that will look like?

Yeah. The fight isn’t fair. It’s horrible and rooted in centuries of systemic injustice. Sadly waiting for the world to change leads to nothing but more oppression: “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed” MLK

I mean, if you look throughout history, freedom has never been given willingly to the oppressed (the disenfranchised). It always has been fought for. That isn’t about blaming the disenfranchised. It’s just the reality of the situation.

I don’t think we should blame people either. But the reality of the situation is that if the masses don’t figure out how to unite and fight back, things are only going to get worse. And it feels so depressing to me. I don’t know what to the solution is. I just don’t want to give up.

One rally won’t make a difference. Look at Minneapolis. People went out every day for weeks and weeks in spite of the threat of real violence, because the stakes were in their face.

Nobody is going to save us. Only consistent resistance will. But sadly I don’t know how to make people care.

And we never will.

Try and find something fluffy to distract yourself. I’m forcing myself to watch Oscar prediction videos and knitting. And went for a walk today. It does help.

I’m teaching a dystopian literature class this semester, and I know that’s important, but in this moment I can’t bring myself to plan tomorrow’s class.

Luckily my students are full of compassion and curiosity. We’ll get through it ❤️
