The 'loudest noise in the jungle -> a giraffe eating cherries' follow-up gag still kind of works, even with this clean version π€£
Thank you all! Luckily nothing went wrong so I didn't need my joke stash to fill the time but I was duly tickled by the comedy brilliance. And if anyone need a kid-friendly joke on world book day, loads in the replies!

We really enjoyed the National Theatre's production of #DrStrangelove on TV a couple of days ago.

Oh yes, I forgot The War.
Which can apply to either WW, and is always the same amount of time ago - so that retirement communities sit through Vera Lynn and Ivor Novello, when they might prefer Elvis or Dusty Springfield
I prefer (3rd person) past, but it depends on the story.
One I'm currently working on definitely needs to be present. It kept lapsing into it as I was writing the first page, so I took the hint!

See, in the UK, we have historical periods of 'Victorian' aka 'Dickensian', 'Shakespeare' and Cavemen.
With all but Cavemen being happily conflated at times (cf, thees, thous and Mistress, as above).
In our case, turkey is of course filed under Dickensian. Turkeys did not exist before the 1840s.

A still from the film Oliver. The Artful Dodger, dressed flamboyantly, has his arm confidently around Oliver, who's not happy about it. Other kids watch from the side, expecting trouble. The text says "The Young Testament books, realising there's a new kid in the series". A watching boy is labelled "Joseph's Boy (Christmas)" Oliver is labelled "Jairus's Girl (Easter)" Dodger is labelled "That Woman's Girl (Also Easter)"
Pancake Tuesday, this weekπ
Then - Easter!
Jairus's Girl was the Young Testament Easter book - till I threw a spanner in the works with That Woman's Girl, which is also the Easter book

Yep! Drives me daft.
And even etiquette stuff, like how titles work. Or when they changed - 19th Century women referred to as Mistress ______ , instead of Mrs.
It's like 'the past' is one big blob

βCats may hold clues for human cancer treatment,β but unfortunately theyβre methodically pushing them off the laboratory bench and onto the floor, one by one, while maintaining unbroken eye contact with you.
