“Same.”
Once more, a little smile.
“It’s complicated. And given the work /I/ do, it’s hard. If I find anyone, they would have to understand not only me but /this/.”
“Same.”
Once more, a little smile.
“It’s complicated. And given the work /I/ do, it’s hard. If I find anyone, they would have to understand not only me but /this/.”
Somehow, the reaction doesn’t surprise him.
“Yes. Unfortunately. It’s not exactly the most pleasant affliction.”
Nor do people romanticize werewolves like they do vampires.
“I understand that,” he assures her. “I’m not sure mine is made for it. But I hope, one day I could have someone to share my life with.”
That person would have to trust him and vice versa. It’s a lot.
“Nothing wrong with wanting to be single, though.”
“People break up. She was wonderful . . . just . . . well, life happened. For us both.”
He takes a drink then, too.
“What not? Not all romance has to be hopeless.”
He gives a sideways sort of smile.
“Not sure if you want to branch out into writing about other communities,” he jokes. “I’m a werewolf.”
Most casual comment ever.
“So I am sure there are those who would warn you about /me/. Which is ridiculous.”
“No!”
Okay, that was too loud.
“No. I mean, not anymore. But a romantic? Definitely.”
He laughs.
“Sorry if that disappoints you that I’m not a cynic.”
“Shove it, Armand.”
Jack tries not to visibly wince at that. But he clicks his glass with hers anyway.
“I . . . umm . . . don’t mind Valentine’s Day.”
He sighs.
“I would say to be careful, but I suppose I am not one to talk.”
Hopefully, she will let him be a gentleman at some point.
“That is kind of you. Umm . . . second on me? If we stay that long.”
He hopes they do — and really wants this to be . . . good.
So romantic.
He smiles.
“I would like that.”
Simple. Straightforward.
“Do you have a place in mind?”
His heart skips a beat.
“No . . . no, I don’t.”
He does imagine so.
Does this stranger know many vampires?
~ Claudia truly wanting to hurt him.
“And there is a mystical object. The Bloodstone. It can make us transform outside of the full moon. And wielding it a certain way, it could destroy us. Or any supernatural being.”
And the woman he was foolish enough to fall in love with is the keeper of it.
~ Sometimes . . . a vampire bite.”
He raises a brow.
So far, he feels fine.
“But that goes the other way, too. You don’t want to be bitten by us.”
It probably is strange that he is listing off the litany of ways she could kill him if she wanted, but he did not think he has to worry about ~
The stories tend to be right when it comes to werewolves.
“The usual for the supernatural. Fire. We regenerate fairly well, but outright dismemberment or decapitation. Destroying the heart.”
But that would destroy anyone.
“More particular to us — silver bullets or stakes. Wolfsbane. ~

~ vampires. They can be killed, too.
“Not food for me, no. At least not intentionally.”
He has certainly torn apart a few. Unlike Claudia, he regrets it, but he also doesn’t judge her for doing wha she needs to survive.
“I am stronger than them, yes, but I am not invulnerable. Certain weapons still could kill me.”
Just so with ~
Of course, he does. She earned that trust the moment they met.
So few can see him when he’s like that. She has a gift.
He doesn’t want to hurt her.
Yes, she calmed him before, but he still worries.
