Tourism as a shared benefit
Tourism should create broad value for society, combining economic vitality with cultural vibrancy, social inclusion and environmental regeneration.

Communities at the centre
Residents’ wellbeing, identity and aspirations must guide tourism development, recognising their role as the custodians of local destinations.

Innovation and digital transformation:
Data, technology and digital skills are essential to strengthening resilience, sustainability and competitiveness across the sector.

Respect for culture and heritage
Our cultural and natural heritage must be safeguarded and celebrated, supporting continuity, creativity and local traditions.

Strengthening nature and society
Tourism should actively enhance ecosystems and support fair and meaningful livelihoods across the tourism sector.

Tourism as a force for peace and understanding
Travel should foster empathy, solidarity and cooperation, reinforcing the values that underpin our work.

In August, we worked with York Civic Trust to highlight historical trailblazers who’ve shaped the city.

Our industrial tansy beetle sculpture (described as ‘a skip’ by one resident) celebrated 64 Luddites who were tried here in 1813 for protesting against the machinery that threatened their jobs.

Last year, we published ‘Homeless Bound’.

A collaboratively created book written by those affected by homelessness in York.

It explores how language, stereotypes and even the paternalistic framework of Victorian philanthropy continues to disempower and infantilise those experiencing it.

Not just the arts…but increasingly the whole social care sector.

We’re really grateful to TNL and NLHF for supporting some of our projects…but the work of VCSE organisations should be the icing on the cake and not the cake in itself.

In 2020, during the pandemic, they then used their cameras to document the impact of lockdowns….and captured images of central York without any tourists.

As well as creating a second series of postcards, called ‘Postcards From The Pandemic’, their work was displayed at galleries within York.
