Mr Rogers and Sesame Street taught me love, kindness, compassion, and empathy. Star Trek taught me to dream of and aspire to help create a better and more diverse world. Star Wars and Tolkien taught me to fight for freedom, even in the face of overwhelming odds and great evil.

Liberals are quick to mount the "kindness" argument on immigration, and then they say our economy depends on them. It's none of that. Our government spent the last 100 years sabotaging their democracies, stealing their resources, and destroying their environment. They have every right to be here.

The American right has turned to Hungary to learn how authoritarians consolidate power.

The American left should look to Poland to see how a big-tent coalition can defeat authoritarianism. It involves multiple parties appealing to different voters.
