How to cut funeral costs We all know about the soaring cost of living, but the cost of dying is also on the rise. Lucy Alderson looks at some of the cheaper, greener options

Interesting article on funeral costs in The Times today, I just wish it was made clearer how much shortfall there is between the government payment and what most people would consider a β€˜normal’ funeral, and how selective the eligibility criteria is!

Cannot wait to start the process of moving to Sheffield, most excited about the fact that I will no longer have to spend my evenings and weekends listening to the kids upstairs arguing, the mum screaming at them & my walls (and everything on them) shaking from them running up and down constantly😫

Stretching out an old(ish) pair of slightly-too-small clogs for work next week and just answered the door to my neighbour with my joggers tucked into bright pink socks with said clogs on my feet, and only realised what a horrific sight that was when I passed a mirror on my way back to my desk 😬

Absolutely, the people who use and have experience of services are usually always best placed to comment on them! Mine is sort of similar in that I really want to understand the barriers faced by the groups most β€˜at-risk’ of funeral poverty so any recommendations that are made prioritise their needs

Hi! Thanks - I’m really enjoying it so far, what’s your PhD focus? I’m also hoping to build networks on here, being part-time I spend hardly any time in my department so don’t know any other PhD students at the moment!

One week today I’ll be walking into my new job for the first time. I was at my last place for 10 years - from when I was in sixth form to now - so this will only be my second ever β€˜first day of work’ and I’m SO nervous for it 😬

I work full-time alongside studying and have been offered an amazing career change opportunity to join a public mortuary as a Mortuary Assistant at the beginning of October. Very different to anything I’ve done before but excited to learn and develop so many new skills! #phdsky (2/2)

Pretty sure I don’t know anyone on here yet, so just a quick introduction - I’m Lucy, a part-time Uni of Sheffield PhD student researching understandings of, and attitudes towards, funeral pre-planning in order to explore whether encouraging pre-planning can help address funeral poverty (1/2)
