Ran into Brian Chad Starks at #AGU24. He talked with my student and I about the importance of finding professors who have joy. Wow. Amazing point. brianchadstarks.com
Perlidae are some of the most striking! πππ
Haha. Know thine enemy
Canadian choice needs to be in Plecoptera. Itβs totally our self conceit that π¨π¦ Canada is a cold, clean, pure land and Canadians all have clever strategies for surviving winter βοΈ but only really emerge in the springtime π±π
I heard about this on (I think) the Daily podcast. Influencers talking up PET bottles as a health product! Influencer culture is another compelling reason we urgently need to teach young how to detect b#ll sh!t
This is extremely depressing
This is the cool nature info I needed to get motivated this morning. Thanks!
Hello. I hope you and your wallet survive this weekendβs paroxysm of consumption intact. Just keep reminding yourself that if you didnβt need it before it was 30% off, you still donβt NEED it. Good luck!

A piece of Hydrilla on the left and native Elodea on the right in the palm of a hand face up over a green grass lawn
Also, bit late, but let me share the sad news that we also found invasive Hydrilla in Ontario Canada this summer π. It is in a contained impoundment and treatment has already begun. Weβre hopeful it wonβt spread, but keep yer eyes peeled π folks and be sure to clean, drain, dry! #invasivespecies
Iβve logged back in, so let me promote our latest paper on the pesticides in stormwater ponds that accumulate in biofilms β> turns out those biofilms are bad food for bugs! #ecology #biodiversity www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Hi Bluesky! Iβm getting so many notifications from you all of a sudden. Is this a final death rattle from X?
Event happening Nov 5 in Waterloo - come watch the Signal Fire documentary about 10 Calls to Action for Natural Scientists to advance #reconciliation with #Indigenous peoples. Please share widely! It is an excellent film π₯
Iβm a mother of three, a tenured professor, a grown ass adult. But Iβm still not wise enough to stop eating salt and vinegar chips before my tongue blisters. Nope. ππ©Ήπ’
Thanks. Iβm really dismayed that someone would set fire to the site. We are stunned really
We will definitely need a before and after. Sadly, we donβt exactly have a control to pair to our impact. This site was the largest single release location in North America. Priceless.
We will take stock of the damage and consider creative pivots. But it is blow to the PhD, whose comp exam is in a couple weeks π.
Burned vegetation and melted plot markers
Blackened remains of a research plot
Heartbroken this morning to discover some vandal set fire to one of our main research plots. We are studying the efficacy of biocontrol in controlling invasive Phragmites. Years of research in ash. π
CHICAGO!! Turn off any non essential lights the next three nights! HUGE HUGE HUGE MIGRATION NIGHTS!! Help the birds!!
If youβre looking for a fun #EarthDay2024 event tonight in the Waterloo Region, come see my talk about #wetlands and why we need strong municipal protections as the province abdicates responsibility for their conservation. Promises to be a great date night! ππ§ͺπ.

Yes. I got the take away that reforestation can do a lot to offset GHG emissions and we can do a lot to mitigate climate change. πππ
Well, if you read the original, have the context that he meant it satirically to point out the inhumanity of the English and the destitution of the Irish. Like βoh the little ice age was triggered by the genocide of Indigenous Peopleβs in N America? So, itβs a climate change mitigation strategy?β π³
Beige wool pants I had taken in and the rise shortened
A structured wool jacket seen from behind - I had it taken in.
Do you have clothes π in your closet you donβt wear because they donβt quite fit? Donβt buy new! Take them to a tailor and have them altered. This supports a local business, keeps jobs in your community, reduces waste & your environmental π footprint and it even saves money π΅ π₯³! #EarthDay2024
I just listened to RadioLabβs latest episode on small potatoes, and then ate a bowl of mashed potatoes for lunch. Itβs the zeitgeist.
I mean, I admit my reference was a little dated π€
I can see how Taylor is the much more popular Swift.
I was thinking of Jonathan Swiftβs 1729 essay that satirically suggested the Irish sell their children to the wealthy English landowners as food to simultaneously solve the overpopulation and poverty crises in Ireland.
