Yesterday we had a very successful second session of our lecture series—the Passau Lectures on Political Emotions. Thomas Stavrinos gave a really interesting talk about hypermasculinity and the manosphere, a topic I can relate on quite well from my work on conspiracism and anti-diversity attitudes.

1 Woche Südkorea – 7 Stunden Zeitverschiebung – 3.600 Teilnehmer*innen beim größten internationalen Kongress der Politikwissenschaft. Es war sehr inspirierend, Kolleg*innen aus der ganzen Welt zu treffen, neue Perspektiven zu sehen und auch unsere eigen Forschung in Seoul vorzustellen.

Zur Tocqueville-Tagung von Sarah Strömel und Eva Helene Odzuck habe ich im @theorieblog.bsky.social einen kleinen Tagungsbericht geschrieben und mir die Frage gestellt, wo Tocqueville heute noch aktuell ist und wo er eventuell auch etwas überstrapaziert wird:

As you may know, our research project TaCT-FoRSED focusses on analysing conspiracism in Europe with a special focus on democratic identity, resilience, and (self-)efficacy. Over the last months we have developed a framework to exploratively investigate factors promoting and inhibiting conspiracism.

It is an honor to me, to be part of the @ipsa.org congress in Seoul next week and the week after and to be able to present our paper on „Levels of Conspiracism and Factors for Mitigation: A Comparative Case-Study Framework“.

Last week, Oliver Hidalgo and I had the opportunity to discuss an early version of our comparative framework at the @dvpw.bsky.social -conference „Citizen’s trust and societal polarization in times of transformation. Comparative Perspectives from different world regions“ at @uni-saarland.de

What makes a society prone to conspiracism, what inhibits conspiracy thought? How do democratic identity and conspiracism influence each other—and how can societies get more resilient and politically efficient against conspiracism?

Danke für die Organisation dieser sehr interessanten und erkenntnisreichen Tagung zu politischer Öffentlichkeit diese Woche in Erfurt!

Mit Partnern in 7 europ. Ländern erforschen wir die Grundlagen von Verschwörungseinstellungen & wie wir demokratische Resilienz und Selbstwirksamkeit als Antworten stärken können. Ich freu mich auf meine neuen Aufgaben in Forschung & Lehre und darauf, eigene, neue Projekte anstoßen zu können. (3/3)

Dazu müssen wir nicht bis in die Vereinigten Staaten schauen: mindestens ein Viertel der Menschen in Deutschland glauben manifest an verschwörungsideologische Erzählungen. Sie gefährden nachhaltig demokratische Identität(en), bedrohen Pluralismus und schwächen den demokratischen Zusammenhalt. (2/3)

Was gibt es Neues? Für mich geht es (zurück) in die Wissenschaft. Ab Februar bin ich PostDoc an der an der Uni Passau. Im EU-Horizon-geförderten Projekt TaCT-FoRSED darf ich weiter am Thema Verschwörungsideologien forschen, denn leider bleibt das Thema weiter aktuell. (1/3)
