Screenshot of a quote from the top of a newsletter that reads "'A house divided against itself cannot stand.' - Jesus." No context is offered for why this quote kicks off the newsletter.
Super weird vibes is this (AI?) local newsletter to which I have somehow become subscribed:
It is straight up humid in Kansas City today and my body and plants are all confused.
Oh hey, this one was in the Princeton alumni mag, too.
Certainly, but in this case the wording focused on "celebrating women" that promised he would tell us about all the local women's history we otherwise would have missed felt...patronizing, I guess.
But maybe I'm just extra grumpy these days.
I mean, I guess, but our city is lousy with fantastic women historians who I would love to see highlighted. And this case is especially odd since it seems to indicate his presentation is based on a book published by a (now dead) woman?
Just saw a local museum publicizing a presentation celebrating "women of all walks of life" in local history...with a presentation by a male historian.
Nothing says celebrating women like a lecture from a man.
Part of research this morning was watching old storm chase videos and man, I can't wait to write this book proposal.
Dissertation streak continues, despite daylight saving time. 42 days!
I knew selling them was no good! But I wanted to be sure passing them along was OK, so thank you!
Publishing people: is it kosher to give away ARCs to listeners when I'm done with them, or is that considered uncool?
Spontaneous listener survey: I have one very cool extra long episode coming up next month. As a listener, would you prefer just to have the whole long episode (about 1.5 hours) at once, or would you prefer it broken into parts 1 and 2?
Also known as "I know I said I was going to do less this season, but have you SEEN all these great plants??" season
I'm starting to think I dreamed it!
Ok, what major breaking news did I miss during this meeting?

Is there some sort of switch that gets flipped when you turn 40, where suddenly all the Eileen Fisher ads look like your ideal wardrobe?
Asking for a friend, who is me.
Iβm so thrilled that THE WESTERNERS made this list of Books to Read in March from @thebookmaven.bsky.social for @latimes.com! Thank you! π₯°π
If I'm going to keep getting up at 5:30 every morning to write, I'm going to need a bigger coffee pot.
Anyone in Prague want to hire me to give a talk about Drafting the Past to their university at the end of April?
Can't quite justify the cost of tagging along on my partner's work trip, but if it were also my work trip... π€·ββοΈ
Blueskis, in the midst of all The Crazy, there was An Unboxing!

Understanding the Public History Workforce. Download Now!
For the past few years, I've been working on a research study at @aaslh.org exploring who works in public history, how they're paid, and how they feel about their work. This week, we published our first report. Please read and share! aaslh.org/history-work...
Haha, no worries, there's always lots of podcast love to go around! I'm a scrivener person, too, so this would be a dream interview for me as a writer. π
Right? My house is just 5 years "younger" than theirs and not super far away, so I definitely get the struggle, especially if there was a lot of deferred maintenance. But whaaaat is happening with that building?
Oh, this is awesome!
βCompilingβ is also integral training for life as a teacher and syllabus-builder.
There is no shortcut to doing hard things; you just have to do them, and then keep doing them until you get better at doing them.
I have no interest in the debate over whether this KC couple should be allowed to tear down their home and rebuild, but ugh that new design: www.kansascity.com/news/busines...
What is happening with house architecture these days??
(pssst we'd love to know what pieces you've loved over the years)
Update: Used one to top a chicken pot pie tonight, highly recommend.
One more thing. If you're interested in this or any book, the best thing you can do to help it find an audience is to preorder it. It's shocking how much they can propel a work into literary (and civic) conversation.
The other best thing is to ask your libraries to get it.
