A quarter of a century ago we lost a giant of Australian politics. And I’d say barely a day has passed when I haven’t been reminded of his legacy. Don Dunstan believed in the possibility and potential of South Australia, and so do I.

Watching #Nemesis and look, it’s glorious to see a bunch of people admitting things they furiously denied back when I wrote a perky little book about the Abbott government…

Look, I’m not saying that Team Street were the best dressed people for Xmas but also yes that’s exactly what I’m saying.
I admire clarity and accuracy in signage.
We mourn. We seethe. We cry. We rage. We look after each other.
We take the time that we need.
And then we pick ourselves up, we come back together, and we continue the work.
We continue the work.
We continue the work.
Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes.
Yes yes yes.
Yes.

Periodically I recall how as a tween I’d cut out reviews of albums (which I largely hadn’t heard) and stick them around my bedroom door until there was a huge, browning collage covering the wall like a word-cancer. I think how much that foreshadowed my career and also wonder why no one intervened.
Finally, SOMEONE is getting their just desserts for breaching the APS Code of Conduct.
Breach it at your peril, citizens, for my standards are high, inflexible, and often arbitrary. Especially about what constitutes a fair price for Sparks LPs.

For reasons that will become apparent at the end of this sentence, I am delighted that the ‘Rebels’ episode of the new @shaunmicallef program celebrates the great 20th century Australian feminist and human rights firebrand, Jessie Street.

As the nation unites around John Farnham, I would like to loudly remind everyone that I was the first - and, sadly, only - author and columnist to vigorously campaign to change our national anthem to ‘Pressure Down’.
SET THE WHEELS IN MOTION, AUSTRALIA.
(Also, vote yes #yes23)
Hey, remember how Peter Dutton walked out of Parliament because he didn’t want to be part of the Apology to the Stolen Generation?
Because you should, each and every time he opens his mouth about how the Voice is too gosh-darn much.
LACKEY: Sir, it appears that your actions have consequences.
ELON: That seems unfair. Let’s sue the consequences!
LACKEY: Brilliant, sir.
ELON: Also, sue this desk [places genitals in drawer, slams it shut] GAAHHH!
LACKEY: [admiringly] So disruptive.
Very pleasantly surprised by the new Blur album, especially the glorious ‘St Charles Square’, which I assume was originally titled ‘I Very Much Enjoy Side One Of “Heroes”.’
Y’know, maybe I’m a terrible cynic but I suspect that “Won’t SOMEBODY think of the poor estate agents?” may not have quite the same emotional heft in broader society that it apparently does in the AFR.
I’ve said it before: all complex issues are explained best via the medium of potty-mouthed ungulates.
(Note: may not have actually said this before)
“I know, let’s pay money to the people that are driving users and advertisers away, that’ll turn things around!”

Musk is launching a lawfare attack on Threads and a right-wing conspiracy nut Australian senator is asking why he can’t see Facebook’s algorithms, and honestly I don’t appreciate being made to feel like Meta and Zuckerberg are the sensible, trustworthy underdogs here.
I would absolutely kick Andrew Tate’s arse at book reading.
If everybody had a 12 gauge / and a surfboard tooooooo…
Does… does Peter Dutton think “elites” means “people with hair”? I mean, the traditional definition tends to include people like insanely wealthy career politicians like, say, P-Dutty, and I’m sure he’ll feel like SUCH a duffer when he realizes he’s been using it wrong.
Almost 24 hours here and I haven’t been yelled at by any Nazis or been asked bad faith questions about how to define a woman. So my question is: does this technically still count as social media?
How smug and supercilious teenage me was when my folks told me to turn off my stupid music, secure in the knowledge that I’d never do that to my kids.
Right now my two eldest kids are playing three different YouTube videos on multiple devices and I say touché, karma, you diabolical monster.
So, any billionaires trying to monetize this yet?
