Gwen Raverat uses the white of the paper & black lines to create the scene. Tall spindly trees with bare branches & bushes. A single loan figure. The rays of light across the sky & water are indicated by dashed black lines. Owned by Sunderland Council. Museum caption - In Spring Morning, Raverat captured a light-filled landscape in black and white. The long shadow beneath the lone figure emphasises the position of the sun.

I look forward to a Spring Morning such as this, with the light flooding the landscape.

Smartly dressed bear with a splendid moustache holding a book by NΓΆrton von Disney with a picture of a coin hoard on the cover.
βI am of course quoting from Erich NΓΆrton von Disneyβs book βMonetise your finds for profitββ, continues Sir Nortibear, βin which he also recommends claiming intergalactic alien influence on every artefact for extra clicks. Complete poppycock!β
Alfred Munnings was associated with the Newlyn School of artists in Cornwall between 1912 and 1914; this painting captures a spring night in the historic fishing village.
Next stop the rapture,
and apparently we should be more afraid of Islamist extremism rather than the Judain-Christian one that has captured America (and they have the nuclear arsenal)

I'm rewatching Travels With Pevsner from 1997, and feeling nostalgic for a time when: a) the BBC still commissioned quality six-part documentaries on architecture; and b) Dan Cruikshank was allowed to quote John Vanbrugh verbatim on primetime telly...
Knighton silver band
Back of the band, with Knighton Silver Band to celebrate St David's Day
Flyer advertising a proposal for 'The Victoria History of the Counties of Wales' listing the president of the committee as HRH The Prince of Wales.
Pitch for a Victoria History of the Counties of Wales. Should you have a parish/VCH-shaped project in Wales/Cymru that you think we could deliver, we would be happy to hear from you, so please get in touch. Diolch i ddarllen.
Dydd GΕ΅yl Dewi Hapus! Happy St David's Day!
We're tearing ourselves away from our Welsh cakes to remind you that, although we have not (to date - never say never), published anything on Wales/Cymru, back in 1903, we had planned to do so. And still might. #HanesCymru #WelshHistory #Skystorians
Folklore is a living current in perpetual manifestation, perpetual mutation. Each telling β whether in story swapped across pints or carved into a church's wooden bestiary β makes a bridge from then to now and onto tomorrow. Even the smallest oak dragon is transmission. β #CLNolan #FolkloreSunday
Stokesay Castle
Probably my favourite view of Stokesay Castle, I like how it sits among the fields. The name comes from the Anglo-Saxon word stoches, meaning cattle farm. You can start a walk from the Discovery Centre taking in the castle, Stoke Wood and Sallow Coppice. A good way to spend the day. #Shropshire
Two ancient copper spoons with decoration on the handles
In honour of #StDavidsDay here are the wonderful Penbryn Spoons, which were found in 1829 beneath a heap of stones inside the Castell Nadolig hillfort, near Penbryn in Ceredigion, Wales. The pair of cast bronze βspoonsβ date to the Late Iron Age (c. 50 BCEβ100 CE).
I know I'm old, but I remember when councils paid people to do this and also would pick up things like old fridges etc for free if you booked it in with them. Of course, that was back in the days when rich people and big corporations paid taxes.
For all the others learning Welsh out there!

Had to stop and look around the White Grit βtin tabernacleβ corrugated iron church which would have served the lead mining community here.
White Grit lead mine pumping engine house. Originally it housed a 1783 Boulton & Watt engine. This was upgraded with a larger beam engine in the 1840s.
This is a really interesting paper and, if I may, particularly well written.
Linley hill
A walk among giants - the avenue of beech trees on Linley Hill, near Norbury. This sight is the legacy of local MP Robert More, who planted the trees around 1740. This is the route you take on Stage 2 of the #Shropshire Way, between Bridges and Bishopβs Castle. My dad provides a sense of scale!
Another archaeology and nature job. Looks like a great opportunity www.bajr.org/job-ad/proje...
I'd really stopped to enjoy the Coddington Parish Room next to the church, with its lovely cast iron windows and red phone box, and walk to the Bronze Age burial mound in the field opposite, but the churchyard next door with its crocus carpet was irresistible.
