with 3D art it's often very easy to make changes even late in the process (e.g. adjust the proportions, reposition the eyes) whereas with 2D stuff becomes harder to change as you put more work into it. 2D encourages you to let go of perfectionism, 3D enables it

i'm not gonna stop drawing or anything but i feel like my brain is geared way more toward 3D art than 2D so it's weird that i haven't spent more time learning/doing 3D

still some rigging left to do but i'm getting close to the point where i can plug her into the game and have her run around and stuff...

gonna have to approximate these shaders in godot though oof

basically this means i can more easily work with animations that aren't bone-based (e.g. mouth & eye motions)

and now it has editor compatibility so i don't have to be running the game to use it (so it'll work e.g. when previewing animations). in unity this would have been a chore and a half

today i messed around with blend shapes in godot and wrote a script to act as a compatibility layer to allow driver-based shape key animations i make in blender to work in godot (because normally they don't)

fun stuff..... it'll make things much more convenient

...anyone got ipad-like portable drawing tablet recommendations (that aren't ipads)?

so i went and got my ipad fixed today. just needed a screen replacement. still pretty expensive but worth being able to draw again

but... the new screen does not play nice with apple pencil, at all. like it's unusable for drawing.... idk what to do

my friend i dragged along also enjoyed but thought mark's old man voice in the opening narration was too silly to take seriously. i agree but to me that's a point in its favor
