The response from Joseph Howes, the Chair of the End Child Poverty Coalition, which reads; “Today’s Spring Statement will cause further hardship for disabled people, which includes families with children. This government came to power with a commitment to significantly reduce the numbers of children living in poverty. Yet, today’s announcement, combined with the recent proposed cuts to disability payments – will likely pull more families into hardship. “The government’s planned Child Poverty Strategy, to be published in spring, will now need to mitigate the impact of these cuts to families - before putting in place further measures, to have any chance of addressing the already record high numbers of children in poverty.” The image also features the Coalition logo, and a placard with the words 'MPs Must End Child Poverty Now.

The Chancellor said today that she would not do anything to put household finances in danger

Yet the government’s own assessment shows their cuts to health related benefits risk pushing 250,000 people into poverty, including 50,000 children 📢

In response to the government's announcement today on plans to cut incapacity and disability benefits, we have issued the following statement- highlighting how these cuts could deepen child poverty.

We also share concerns from young people, living in poverty, who will be impacted.

A morning well spent with the University of Edinburgh Law School’s Human Rights Clinic who are helping @together-sacr.bsky.social understand how, globally, the law (informal and formal) is used to access justice for babies & very young children.

We were delighted to be invited to speak with Volker Türk, UN Commissioner for Human Rights, about the incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into law in Scotland at a joint meeting hosted by @amnestyuk.bsky.social
