We liked it as a group and wanted to visit each other for trade an stuff and it just didn't happen cause the only way to do it is a real unique Wii NAND dump. If you don't own a Wii or want to spend a day softmodding it, not happening
Emulation is cool, but "free" isn't always free. For above instances and similar, I rather pay an, in reality relatively acceptable, sum for an entertainment product out of box, then spend hours or days to set up the "free" version. My time and nerves are more valueable then that.
Actually playing with friends in any game, or using any online feature, or getting a new, critical update, you run into hurdles. You can bring eG. Dolphin emu online for City Folk, but only if you can dump your own real physical Wii's NAND and insert it in the Emu. Not hard, but a hurdle nonetheless
"Just emulate" is such a shit opinion for a lot of cases. Yes it's possible, yes it costs nothing, yes you get to really show evil Nintendo who's the boss (as if; but dream on, y'all). For many games, its probably viable. But the second you like to engage in platform features, such as:
