After 7 years, 24 humanitarians were acquitted of baseless charges.

We stand in solidarity with all of those who chose to help people in distress at sea.

Saving lives is not a crime, it is a shared responsibility and obligation under intl maritime law.

2/2 This expansion of a clearly illegal praxis based on human rights violations marks a further escalation of the EU’s externalisation policy in Libya.

4/4 Sudan (like Gaza) shows how modern war targets populations—and how humanitarianism can become part of that logic. Starvation, displacement, camps. Aid is allowed, managed, and weaponised to control people, not to end violence or enable self-determination.

3/4 Beyond this critique, the article presents a clear, alternative path forward away from being fund-dependent to self-sustaining & transformational forms of mutual aid, a vision that stands in direct opposition to a system of perpetual dependency and centres the notion of popular sovereignty.

2/4 The article addresses the re-branding of the community based Emergency Response Rooms, which originate from the revolutionary Resistance Committees and traditions of mutuality, into western-style NGOs, transforming them from democratic grassroots projects into civil society projects.

In October 2024 the EU announced it would provide €30 million from its aid budget to Senegal.

Ultimately, the plans can be seen as contributing to a new era of carceral EU migration “management” in West Africa.
