What We Need Now £3,000 (We already passed this milestone thanks to everyone's support!!) covers immediate running costs so we can stay afloat for now. £5,500 covers our quarterly rent payment due April, securing the space in the short term and relieving immediate financial pressure so we can focus on running and growing the shop. £7,000 allows us to cover rent and bills beyond April and begin expanding our stock. Hopefully we can get more of your favourite books, authors, and genres in the shop! More photos of the space and our free hot drinks and info station

£10,000 Gives us the ability to thrive! which means: more paid hours for the workers, improved accessibility signage, a baby changing table, expanded book and zine selection, more community events, capacity to offer the space for free to more grassroots and unfunded groups... If we exceed our target, we can consistently print and publish our own zines and merchandise, cover licensing, compliance, and costs more securely, support more free and low-cost community events, and build long-term financial stability, making sure that TPL can continue serving the community for many many years to come!

Thanks to the incredible outpouring of community support, we've raised almost £5k for our Crowdfunder so far! This covers our immediate running costs so The People's Letters can stay afloat for now. You made sure we didn't lose another beloved community space, and we cannot be more grateful for your support. But we don't just want TPL to scrape by. We want to build real sustainability and capacity while practising radical politics without compromise. That's why we have extended the Crowdfunder till end of March, to hopefully bring us to our 10k goal.

We started this workers' co-op without a financial cushion and moved straight from a labour dispute into building this space from the ground up, learning as we go and slowly finding our footing. Despite all the difficulties, we are still committed to practising radical politics in action. Since October 2025, we have been open every single day from 11 am to 7 pm, including Christmas and New Year's. We operate on a pay-what-you-can model for secondhand books and event tickets; offer our event space for free or at low cost to unfunded groups, SWers, trans and anti-fascist groups. We make sure no one is turned away for lack of funds, and that people can come in, read, collect supplies, chat, or hang out with friends without feeling the pressure to buy anything.
