My father has cancer and spent many a day in the hospital as well in the US. However, as my mom put it, they ate like kings by comparison. I remember the cafeteria was something I looked forward to on visits. Food is comfort and healing, and don’t understand the mentality of poor food choices.
I can’t even imagine what a nightmare that was. She’s only lactose sensitive, so double that seems like a true nightmare

German hospital food has three categories as we learned: Brot, Wurst and Käse.
Daughter says „I don’t eat wurst or Käse.“
The lady taking her order, deadpan: “what do you eat then?”
I DON’T KNOW; MAYBE ALL THE OTHER FOODS?! They are lucky my picky ass isn’t the patient 😂
