The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. “What can we do to make the least number of people mad?” is just a bankrupt way to operate.

100 percent correct.
The hope here really is just that Trump sees Carney as an excuse to shut up and blame his own past rhetoric and actions on Trudeau.
There is not really a world in which Carney should, or can politically, be more acquiescent while the US is imposing tariffs and talking annexation.
If he keeps carving out every sector that complains, he will run out of meaningful tariffs.
Basically this stuff just looks like more attempts by the Trump admin to game the stock market for self enrichment.
They are so flagrantly corrupt it is wild.
Just a couple of sociopaths justifying their cruelty.
I will give a shit about their cheap fucking cars when they free the Uyghurs, hold democratic elections, and don't disappear people for criticizing the government.
There's little democratic about the US electoral system, from unlimited influence of money to gerrymandering to voter suppression, etc. etc.
Free and fair elections are better than any other alternative, even when they result in stupid outcomes.
And I suggest that the United States should seize and nationalize Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink. We can both make suggestions!
I am stress buying wool.
Here's a good Boston Globe rundown of the protests, and for folks hitting a paywall I'll post a free link in the next tweet.
Not sure what is going on or why Meta would allow its algorithm to go haywire like this, but this has been going on for awhile now and it is very weird:
Just so we're clear was it not a crisis when it was the other way around?
Could a single Canadian journalist learn how constitutional monarchy fucking works?
'It found there were 197 complaints challenging books in Canadian libraries in 2023 and nearly half were about 2SLGBTQ content. That's compared to roughly 10 per cent in 2019, the study said'.
The Christofascists here want erase difference in Canada too.

Same.
The only reason Vance was even there is because they know grandpa can’t keep his shit straight king enough to finish a sentence. These lying fucking scumbags.
Love to see it!
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responds, something we hopefully see a lot more of that from other European leaders. It's never been clearer than in this moment that Trump is Putin's ally, not Europe's.
The Iraqi cab driver I had today said "Everybody hates America now. Except Putin." Hard to disagree.
You know someone lost an argument when they suddenly change the subject and call for respectability and calm.
as hardline realist narratives and explanations creep into public debate again, let’s remember that the old maxim “the strong do what they will and they weak suffer what they must” is the tragic crux of a parable about people asking for mercy, not an axiomatic law; no one owes the powerful obedience
@stevendewitt.ca Hi Steven!! I am here! Hear me roar!!
Such a shit lark that one.
Hi Emmett! I just watched a CBC piece on this and the law is described as "draconian" in its setup. Do you think it's reasonable to describe it that way? Calling it essentially "excessive" out of the gates seemed a bit off to my ear. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRwj...
