I guess Rubens' depiction of a richly boobed classic statue (the case with the artwork I chose to illustrate my short story) is 'adult content' now.

Mary and the Rabbit Dream was mentioned in a personal essay on medical misogyny on Substack. It spurred, not fiction, but some thoughts and remembered historical facts. Link below (and link to the essay as well in my text).

How Do People Stay The Same Galley Beggar Mail

There is a new book by Mark Bowles on the way. It's called How Do People Stay The Same. It is, as you might expect, a thing of beauty and wonder. Details here: www.galleybeggar.co.uk/campaigns/vi...

Screenshotted excerpt of a post by Mark Bowles on Substack with the text: "Some really great writing is appearing on Substack, including some new stories and novellas by Noemi Kiss-Deaki, whose Mary and the Rabbit Dream was published by Galley Beggar last year. Like that book, Age of Wonder was compulsively readable and deceptively simple, somehow removing us from the human world we inhabit and seeing things askance. Fashioning non-human perspectives (Sarah Hall’s Helm is another example), will become increasingly prevalent and increasingly important in a dangerously anthropocentric world."

I had to change the link to my Substack publication The Garden of Delights, so old links invalid. Updated link below. Subscribe if you fancy some historically speculative and at times satirical short fiction (e.g a short story and three novellas) by yours truly.

A screenshotted quote from the novella À Outrance by Noémi Kiss-Deáki with the following text:

"The second physician is a Danish fellow. If possible, his accent is even heavier than that of the Polish physician. He has to repeat his words several times for Cosima to understand at all. He says he has something that cures all ills. He calls it Gammel Dansk.
“Is it medicine?” Cosima asks.
“Yes,” he says. “The best medicine there is.”
She drinks it. He has a drink too. Because, he says, Gammel Dansk is good for you, even when you are fit as a fiddle."

If you haven't read "Mary and the Rabbit Dream" by @noemikissdeaki.bsky.social, then you ought. It's a mysterious and rather beautiful book about the strange, true story of Mary Toft. I commend it to you.

On Friday, I will release the very first part of my historically speculative novella À Outrance on Substack. It is a complete work of about 21 800 words.

I dare say this one in particular is one for the fans of my debut. We have grand events, mad events and more info below.
