Listening to the Mosul dialect, which many claim is “identical” to Baghdadi Judeo-Arabic.

Among many differences I notice, one that might be missed by casual observers is a in unstressed syllables:

‘good’ مليح
Maslawi: malīḥ
BJA: mlīḥ

‘flour’ طحين
Maslawi: ṭaḥīn
BJA: ṭḥīn

Crossing the world without an interpreter - Arabic studies in England 1550-1640 The object of this course is to examine the reasons for studying Arabic in England between 1550 and 1640.

The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries saw a flourishing of interest in the Arabic language across Christian Europe.

This in-person short course examines the reasons for studying Arabic in England, the manner in which it was done and the results to which it led.

One of the most common usages of this is

fǝd-yōm…פִד יוֹם فد يوم

to begin narrating a story.
