I don't know how the current Strait of Hormuz crisis will end.

But I am sure that many countries will be looking at this and thinking about how they can incentivize electric vehicles and reduce oil dependence for the future.

Surprised they aren't claiming that it is a plan to increase sulfur dioxide emissions to combat global warming.

Humanity heating planet faster than ever before, study finds Researchers identify sharp rise to about 0.35C every decade, after excluding natural fluctuations such as El NiΓ±o

The Guardian on our new study, which shows that global heating is significantly gathering speed. Our efforts to overcome our fossil fuel addiction should do the same.

In total energy output over a year, equivalent to two 1.1 GW nuclear reactors, but much more usable. Batteries provide much more power at peak demand times, and support energy prices when RE production exceeds demand.

I have to say this is suspect in an age when sea level is monitored globally by satellites in real time.

Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand)
Results:
Last week: 100% RE

Huge!

China's wind and solar generated enough electricity in 2025 to supply ~54% of the USA's total electricity demand in 2024.

China's 2025 wind and solar generation total was 2318 TWh.

Those saying China isn't generating huge amounts of power with wind and solar are foolish. #energysky

For some reason I can't post the image of the record of France's nuclear plants which have LOTS of down time. Try it again along with another graph to see if that one posts.

GOOD NEWS: The world’s largest steam-producing heat pump is now online in Finland, delivering 12 MW of superheated steam from waste heat and COβ‚‚-free electricity.

Proof that industrial heat can be electrified at scale.

What might come out in a year or two is no help. I would love a 500 mile BEV minivan - with removable seats - at a reasonable price ($50K). Alternatively, I wait for fast charge stations to become as common as gas pumps, or an EREV with 100 mile electric range. But I am still driving a 2004 Odyssey.

It would be nice if they compared them to the average/best ICE cars. But the problem is that most ICE drivers have seldom if ever driven an EV. Drive a Tesla and the ICE car you previously rated a 9 drops to a 6 instantly.

We tend to think of batteries as the ones in our phones. But the real shift is happening at grid scale.

Utility-scale β€œmega batteries” now have hundreds of millions of times the capacity of a smartphone battery.

Costs are down ~40% since 2024, and capacity in 2024 was 12x higher than in 2020.

Is Ring using your doorbell to assist ICE? I don't know, but here is the takeaway for corporate America. If you aren't demonstrably anti-fascism, you are assumed to be on board with it. Try using those door bells to warn people of ICE raids.

ICE using the same ruse that Ted Bundy used to kidnap people should tell you something.

The extent to which China is powering the world with affordable, clean energy technologies - from solar photovoltaics to electric vehicles - is astonishing. It's already the biggest energy story of my lifetime and it's still early days.
