The point is that they're not funny because they're parodies, they're funny because they're funny. The references to other movies and pop culture might be funnier if you know the source, but they are written to still be funny if you don't (which is why they still hold up).

The reason those movies work is that they're funny movies, with funny characters and funny stories, completely independent of what they're parodies of.
If you have never seen any of the movies they're referencing, they're still funny in their own right. I saw all of them before I saw their sources.

it's one thing to say with regards to a general election "vote blue no matter who"

but it's a completely different thing to insist (as *lots* of Dem accounts I've personally seen are saying) that trans ppl *must* vote for Newsom when we're still several years away from presidential primaries!

Party of the reason we have the problems with cops that we have today is that we've made them responsible for *everything*.
So many things they're not trained or qualified for, that even people who support the police can recognize shouldn't be their job.

But they won't let go of the power.

They don't have to be done by cops, who aren't very good at them in the first place.
Mostly because they're too busy doing other things like rousting homeless people and beating up minorities.

Not investigations after a crime has happened, that would be a separate team that is trained in how to investigate crimes. Not traffic patrols, or safety checks, or crisis response. Not even most violent crime which can, in fact, be handled non-violently.

But they're available if needed.

A smaller, very specialized force of professionals that only act when called upon because a situation has arisen that cannot be dealt with peacefully.
Not proactively looking for trouble and trying to do everything.

Like the fire department but with guns.

It really isn't though.
There is zero indication that it will ever be useful or profitable.

Won't speak for The Left, but my "taking AI seriously" take is that it is misallocated investment, a financial bubble, and a privacy and security nightmare which will only get worse. Seems a bit more serious than "AI will be god soon and all fun and friendship will be replaced with AI tamagotchis"
