The weather turned nasty very suddenly with rain and snow and caused chaos for the entire field, so the race directors called a neutralisation with about 46km to go and resumed at 29. It was a long stage, which was at one point more than ten minutes ahead of schedule.
From my perspective, the neutralisation really hurt him time wise as he was stuck in the peloton and he just could make inroads on the final climb.
It was an extremely loud duck call! He was furious.
A brilliant ride, it was.
