Interest rate, after the elections, is now halal
Egypt presidential hopeful Altantawy didn’t gather the required endorsements till now casting doubt on his nomination:
- stifling by regime elements
- not allowed to use traditional media
- people are afraid to endorse him
- unknown outside internet
- lacks campaign machinery
Central Bank of Egypt orders all banks to halt all international transactions by Egyptian debit cards. See, it the purchases of these debit cards that is causing the forex hemorrhage and not the colossal debt serving bill caused by the many unneeded vanity projects!
Regime owned media is now after Ahmed Altantawy, the guy is causing headache. Questions: will he be allowed to officially run? Will the Egypt regime tolerate him for 2 more months in order to get the fig leaf they need? x.com/cbcegypt/sta...
Important detail. Moody’s previously downgraded Egypt to CAA1 10 years ago. Today we are back to square one, but in a far more precarious condition.
Moody’s downgrades Egypt’s credit rating for the second time this year. Egypt now at CAA1. Very bad news.
No economic action will be taken before the election theater. January 2024 will be a massacre.
Musk is hurting real news and helping fake news.
Some people ask me if I will endorse Altantawy:
- I’m personally against participation in this election theater
- I do commend the bravery of those who sign an endorsment
- Enough the risk I’m taking with this account 🤦🏻
My views on the Egypt elections:
- I believe the regime wants the fig leaf, this is why I’m against participation.
- however, Altantawy is making political waves, unseen throughout the past ten years. These waves could be a prelude to something in the future.
A big story in the war in Ukraine is how the Ukrainians have cut down the power of the Russian navy. Russia recently withdrew the bulk of its ships from the headquarters of the Black Sea fleet in occupied Crimea. My latest with Tom Grove: www.wsj.com/world/russia...
In 2008, I joined Twitter to follow the protests in Iran. In 2023, I joined Bluesky to escape Elon Musk.
