I mean I genuinely don’t know why this matters a lot, at any kind of high level. What matters is how it works now. We should dislike parallel tribal governments, and while most approve of various services that are provided to support native tribes, my view is that we need to make those universal.

Okay but I genuinely don’t get why many on the left are okay with things like ancestry based blood and soil heritage or blood quantum or anything like that. I am against any kind of ancestry based or tribal ethnonationalism for anyone anywhere, so why am I supposed to make an exception here?

Heritage blood and soil nationalism, literal tribalism, appeals to nature above else, hierarchical societies with discrete rules, and self-determined segregation actually do have a fairly obvious overlap with the logic of native American sympathy.

If you would like to justify categorical separation by ethnicity based on height, also CAIS and XXX, etc…. then go for it. But almost all metrics we use in sports are height or mass adjusted anyways.
