Those are good points! I find that it's easier to get crisp mitered corners with on-grain strips but I do use bias when it's a curved edge
I don't use bias strips for binding square quilts, just regular on-grain strips!
I think that LD's amethyst/emerald list should be a good budget option, can definitely manage it without Dumbo's. The new Sven won't be too pricy and I think legendary Webby isn't that bad either.

It does not to be hung at full size. Fold it into long quarters and hang it from a single hanger, and then unfold it and rotate which side is outwards every hour
If you want it to dry fast you need airflow on both sides. The tarp will trap moisture. Better to hang it from some clothes hangers and put it in an empty closet
Yes, this can happen if you have pointy chairs. Try to make sure most of the weight it supported. You could use cardboard to create a platform to hang on, or spread it out on a table top. But generally I find that small bumps can be ironed out after if you use steam.
I am not super precious about my quilts, especially if they don't have much hand stitching. I wash on gentle with hot water and a couple colour catchers depending on the size. Then I hang it over some chairs til half dry then into the dryer and then iron with steam to get it flat again!

I thought the olympic opening ceremony was delightful! Oscillating between refined and corny, as it should always be. Little bit opera, little bit big paper mache heads. Maybe too reliant on dance and the cauldron lighting was disappointing but overall a classic for my favorite TV show of all time!
