The way the mainstream Democratic party’s empathy can be turned off like a faucet is one of the main reasons I started distrusting American liberalism.

Given that Burt did Evening Shade at a time that TV wasn’t yet a thing actual movie stars of his caliber would do (even if he was in a decline in fame then), I suspect he was given a lot of leeway by Bloodworth-Thomason in finding people he wanted to work with.

Every argument for this being a good tactic presupposes Democrats will be able to message that they’re the ones helping, not Trump. Which is…well, that’s a level of faith in them belied by evidence.

I still think it's funny (and telling) that they think it assuages anybody's fear about CNN's editorial independence to tell them to look at what's happening under Bari Weiss at CBS News

My father worked for American Airlines and the one refrain I keep hearing in my head is how he always said “Airlines can’t survive if oil is over $100 a barrel. And if they go, the whole economic web they’re connected to goes.”

But for a lot of us, it is NOT fake. The danger was real. The hypervigilance was real. We have lost rights and are losing more. The people we love have, too.

That makes all the shaking hands like it was all a game feel even worse.

Especially when you're chiding us for being UNCIVIL about a CEO.

You can't constantly put us in a hypervigilant state of thinking we, personally, are responsible for keeping this country from crumbling into dust, and then shake hands with the people you swore wanted to destroy us.

It's fake. Our leaders look fake. That would be bad enough if the danger was fake.

If you run like we're under mortal threat, you need to lose like we're under mortal threat, too. Throw your body on the gears. Cosplay the GOP rejecting everything just to make those in power look bad.

If you don't, do not come back to us in 2 years & tell us democracy is on the line.

I've been resisting replying to a lot of posts today, because I wanted to think. And I think that we are at a unique crisis point right now on the left.

You can not spend a year running on telling us that democracy will end if this guy wins, and then just turn around and say, "well norms, you know"

Even without the tattoo he sucks and is past my own personal red lines, but damn it, with the tattoo he *should* cross everyone’s red lines.
