Here's a little taste of what's coming. At Hervannan valtaväylä, there is a 3 meters wide two-way cycle path separated from walking and the footpath is also almost 3 m wide. This project is in the next year's draft budget. #tampere #cycling #pyöräily

We've published street plans for Viinikankatu, Lahdenperänkatu and Hervannan valtaväylä for comments. These are big developments, especially at Hervanta as the ped/bike connection between Hermiankatu and Näyttämönkatu has been long awaited. #tampere #cycling #pyöräily

There's definitely a demand for better bikeshare service in #Tampere and that's what we are aiming for with the next scheme. I hope the politicians see the value in bikeshare and allocate sufficient resources to it. 🚲❤️

Yeah it's great they make these innovations and I know it's a commercial and there has to be drama, but I can't help myself thinking all over again that the truck driver should anticipate what's coming as he is coming from behind and sees the cyclists before taking a turn 🙈

And a shout-out to our capital city Helsinki for ranking 6th. The place at the podium is close, truly hoping they make it some year. They set the example for other cities in Finland.

The Copenhagenize Index is out and the city of #Tampere reached the 45th place amongst the most bicycle-friendly cities! There are many things we can do even better, and it takes time to make a real change, but this shows that we are on the right track (cycle track that is 🤭) #pyöräily #cycling

We'll continue next year April 15. The current users clearly like the bikeshare scheme, but the usage could be a lot higher. We try to attract new users and boost usage, and for that we have some very exciting ideas in our pocket, but more of that later. 😏 #Tampere #cycling #bikeshare #pyöräily

All good things come to an end. Our #bikeshare closes tomorrow. We had 8 700 passes and 7 100 single-trips sold, 230k trips made by bike so utilization rate was 1,7 trips/bike/day - "not great, not terrible" as someone would say. User satisfaction stays high and NPS is 78, which is excellent result!

And thanks to the state money granted by @traficomfinland.bsky.social we were able to build park and ride for bikes at bus stops. Those things usually cost quite a lot but now we got them with a hefty discount, in a way.

We've built about 900 new bike racks in Tampere, and more is coming! Next year we're heading to Kaleva and Hervanta. #cycling #Tampere #pyöräliikenne #pyöräily

En tekisi noin, vaikka tarkoitusperät voi olla hyvät. Liikkumisympäristön ennakoitavuus ja muiden liikkujien toiminnan ennustettavuus on olennaista - tällainen ratkaisu on liian poikkeuksellinen. Pitäisi tyytyä siihen, että konfliktipiste/puoltenvaihto tulee johonkin, ja tehdä se sitten laadulla.

Oulussa alikulkuja on pantu uuteen uskoon ja @harrivaarala.bsky.social jotain matskua someen tuutannut vuosien varrella. Olis kiva kuulla Harrin näkemys alikuluista, hyvä vai paha?

ne pitäis tehdä paljon laadukkaammin huomioiden pituuskaltevuudet, leveydet, valaistukset jne. Suomessa alikulut tuntuu monesti olevan mallia "mutka pimeyteen ja ylämäki". En tiedä aiheesta kovin paljoa, kun ei ole tullut oltua tekemisissä alikulkujen suunnittelun kanssa mutta jotenkin noin.

Kai se kantava ajatus menee jotenkin niin, että tasapainoisen liikennejärjestelmän kannalta autoliikennettä on priorisoitava jossain, ja näin syntyy alikulkuja. Alikulutkin voi olla kävelylle ja pyöräilylle hyviä, kun ne poistaa kohtaamisen autojen kanssa, mutta...

Lately I've been digging more on this subject, and I'm even more convinced about the need of denser station network. Like, super dense in certain areas. I't seems that dense station network is way more important than reliability of bike availability. Just have to balance the equation. #bikeshare

I think we should aim for something similar when we plan centralized bike parking facilities here in #Tampere

State funds are important because effectively they make it possible to make renovations and new connections earlier than otherwise would be possible. And the strict requirement that funded projects must follow the design guide for bicycle traffic ensures that we (and other cities) do our best.
