Someone at the NYT asked me a couple years ago for an opinion piece on "how to solve the Colorado River water crisis."

So I made a nice little writeup on the most obvious answer: charging for water.

Once the editorial board saw it, they freaked out & cancelled the piece.

That's a horrifyingly large amount of power, and they want to power it entirely with carbon energy. No thanks, I don't think we need the equivalent of Omaha in power usage added to the state for this nonsense.

I disagree, my experience with relatives has been that the sooner you get them out of their isolated settings the better. I don't necessarily mean assisted living, either. Senior communities exist that have smaller homes that are easier to maintain than the 3 bed house they've been in forever.

one time in london i went to a small casino at one in the morning that had office fluorescent lighting, no music, and pretty much no talking. some guys were playing billiards and the balls clacking was the only sound in the room. you should have to go to a place like that

I remember having this fight about it on Reddit some time between 2016 and 2018. It very clearly is about skin color with how it's brought up and when. Whether we want to call it racism or xenophobia is academic, it's the same impulse.

Is it though? Certainly for seniors trying to live in the same house they raised a family in, but that's bad, they shouldn't be living there still. "Aging in place" is at best a mixed bag and only really possible if the place is a very walkable neighborhood.

Horse or cow for sure, I've chased them around a pasture enough that I'm pretty sure I could manage so long as I can find a long anything,v I've used a particularly long plant stem before since you just need to look big and offer an open route.

Small is probably harder than mid to large, it's actually pretty hard to chase a mouse outside if they can find a nook or cranny.

Cow or horse for sure. I've had to chase them from one pen to another and so long as I can find a long anything, it's easier than people think.

For the same reason, maaaaaybe a bison? They probably want to get out of there too so I probably don't get stomped/gored, but that's an gamble.

My entire family were thrilled with Walz. We never met him, but we're from the same state and my dad had a very similar childhood and "dude who does stuff without peacocking" is just a breath of fresh air.

I think we can fix a lot of it by just adding some friction. No more stupid "social casino" apps or draft kings, go to your dingy smoke filled casino and place your bet in person like a proper degen.

I think sports betting is fine, but only if you confine it to casinos and the like. The moment you could bet with an app on your phone, all bets were off.

Boarding and seizing Iranian tankers? Does that still fall under the marines?

I just like the idea of dwarves as Egypt because of the ancestor worship and how amusing I think it would be as a DM for the players to explore a tomb of a mummy king before I break out my best attempt at a Scottish accent. "'Oo's in my mah tomb?" style.

Maybe this has always been true, but it's clear one of the biggest problems we face in the 21st century is:

The Venn diagram of "people who understand material plenty isn't magic but instead depends on a whole world of logistics" and "people with political charisma" has a vanishingly small center.

Feels like it's been at least a decade straight of genuinely incredible athletes who all have one particular glaring weakness or another and the season goes great until a little into conference play when there's enough film to just pick us apart.

It's surprisingly easy to find yourself in that spot. My mother's cousin is a NYC politician who's met anyone who does fundraising in NYC, I'm pretty sure I'm at most 4 degrees from every world leader and I'm a nobody from Nebraska.

You say that as if it wasn't those same groups rioting and striking for liberty, for proportional representation, or for limits on the monarchy.

But fair enough, it wasn't your ancestors who fought and died for the liberties and freedom you now enjoy, I retract my statement.
