My βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ review of ROSETTA boxd.it/dtpgnF
Uncompromising & unrelenting, painfully easy to recognize struggle for normality & stability...but tough to reconcile what happens to attain it.
A singular character, Dequenne's Rosetta is defiantly tough & unlikable.

Pretty good, based on popular Manga, if you enjoy outlandish Samurai action.

That's cool. Lived in L.A., on periphery of industry for over 10 years. Always nice when celebs were unexpectedly generous.

Movie Poster: Waiting for Guffman
#NowWatching WAITING FOR GUFFMAN (1996). Director: Christopher Guest. Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey.
Rewatching a mockumentary fave about small-town Missouri theater folk with big dreams. Guest brings together hugely talented cast to act like they don't have talent!

My βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ LW&C: BABY CART TO HADES boxd.it/dtCbsh
Chap. 3 in saga of father/son assassins features terrific set-up, noble (but ruthless) opponent & most preposterous final battle yet.
Daigoro, in increasingly tricked-out baby buggy, speaks volumes with one look.

The raves on this eluded me, too. I liked the actors, but it didn't go anywhere satisfying for me.

Perpetual badass Sharon Stone celebrates birthday, 3/10/1958.
Maybe not always best movies, but films like TOTAL RECALL (1990), BASIC INSTINCT (1992), & QUICK AND THE DEAD (1995) made her force in Hollywood. And she always speaks her mind!
Oscar nom in Scorsese's CASINO (1995).

My βοΈβοΈ1/2 review of KITTY FOYLE boxd.it/dsWFKr
Yes, Ginger Rogers won an Oscar talking to herself in a mirror?!?
Pretends to showcase strong working woman, but reduces life to choice between two men. Awkward narrative framing & unconvincing dilemma. Rogers at 15yo is especially painful.

It's great to see Gwyneth Paltrow back on the big screen in a meaty role. Good going!
But...
How dare you tease me with the great Sandra Bernhard in the credits & then give her nothing to do! A pox on your house!

My βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ1/2 review of MARTY SUPREME boxd.it/dsHX1J
Chalamet was destined for role: cocky asshole, not without charm, who'll do or say anything to be on top.
Played to rafters, extreme comic mayhem succeeds thru sheer unpredictability. Wild & entertaining ride bolstered by strong cast.

I'd watched every major Oscar nom while growing up, so these are all rewatches. But this might be the most baffling of those I've dipped into again. And nominated for Picture, Director & Screenplay? You know this was creaky & stale, even in 1940. And I hated Rogers.
