What Birds Dream About: How Evolution Invented REM in the Avian Brain So We May Practice the Possible in Our Sleep “It may be that in REM, this gloaming between waking consciousness and the unconscious, we practice the possible into the real… It may be that we evolved to dream ourselves into reality…

It is maddening to see people animated by false allegations of fraud against daycare workers making pennies compared to the billionaires defrauding Americans to the tune of, well, billions, all while investing in and running platforms to spread the daycare fraud lies

The president is handing out oversized clown shoes to his cabinet — and watching to see who refuses to wear them.

It's Solzhenitsyn's Stalin story come to life: the first person to stop applauding ended up in the gulag. The lesson then, as now — never be the first to stop clapping.

Coming up on 30 years since the Dunblane school shooting massacre (13th March 1996) and watching another documentary about it. The families wanted to end legal handgun ownership and we passed those laws. We’ve not had a school shooting since. I ache for all Americans who cannot get this done there.

I’m seeing a whole lot of “but what about” posts on here today.

We’ve reached the point of fascism (a long time ago, honestly) when things are really bad for a lot of people.

Someone naming how it’s bad for them isn’t taking anything from you. Solidarity with each other is the way out of this.

A cartoon by Ron Cobb (1975), showing a shadow of US B-52 bomber above cratered landscape. Two people who look like Vietnamese peasants look up; one says “they’re having problems with their economy again.”

Lemme get this straight...

Trump's out there bombing Iran claiming to the media that he’s getting rid of nukes and flipping the regime…

But in a classified briefing with the Senate, the administration straight up admits:

Difficult to emphasize just how much a generation of kids has been taught that being dishonest, superficial, and narcissistic is the pathway to attention and therefore success

Limited palette (olive green, indigo, warm white) landscape. High ridge line ascending left to right below pale, clouded but not dark sky. Hillside cloaked with shadows of trees, blurred and faded. Unfinished painting.

this isnt just a fox thing but its so weird how often "the market" is spoken about like its a sentient god we must offer up sacrifices to. if you were an anthropologist looking at our culture of the last 100 years wo context you would assume The Market is a deity we worshipped like the greek gods

"Was the Iranian regime bad?"

And

"now that Trump started a regime change war in a country the size of Iraq and Afghanistan combined, without getting congressional approval or doing any planning at all, should we just kind of roll with it?"

Are different questions.

But you'd hardly know it.

The war on Iran is unfolding alongside a wave of mass layoffs in the US. These are not separate crises. They are two sides of the same offensive by the ruling class against the working class.

I've been tempted to read the book lately, knowing a bit of Wade Davis' work. The film has a special place in my heart probably because I was in high school when the it was released, and the hype was geared toward young horror fans like I was at the time.

Things that are tougher than Markwayne Mullin:
-the oil stain on my driveway
-an Amish clothespin
-my deceased grandmother’s bursitis
-this bagel I’m eatin
-a single scale from the wing of a monarch butterfly bound for a forest in Mexico
-fiestaware
